ROYAL CARIBBEAN REDEFINES CRUISING FAVORITES WITH OASIS OF THE SEAS

Miami, August 27, 2008 – At a Virtual Travel Show sponsored by AAA Travel last night, Royal Caribbean International unveiled two more neighborhoods for the highly anticipated Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest and most revolutionary cruise ship when she launches in November 2009. The Pool and Sports Zone and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center were announced at the consumer Internet event, revealing additional examples of innovation and amenities for which Royal Caribbean has been renowned throughout the cruise line’s history. This latest announcement precedes the opening of Oasis of the Seas’ general bookings on September 3, 2008.

"Royal Caribbean is thrilled that AAA Travel is providing us a forum to make another momentous announcement for Oasis of the Seas," said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. "This latest unveiling of two more neighborhoods to be found on Oasis of the Seas continues to prove our legacy of revolutionary cruise ship design. We have developed the Pool and Sports Zone and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center to give our guests even more choices on a unique and memorable Royal Caribbean cruise."

The Pool and Sports Zone and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center – coupled with the previously announced neighborhoods of Central Park, Boardwalk and Royal Promenade – will provide guests with the widest array of experiences from which to satisfy their personal styles, preferences or moods on a cruise. Stretching the length of the ship, the Pool and Sports Zone is an ample playground for guests of all ages, featuring private cabanas, four unique types of pools, and two FlowRider surf simulators – each larger than the single FlowRider found on the line’s Freedom-class ships. Building on the Royal Caribbean’s popular Vitality wellness program, guests will be able to soothe mind, body and soul in the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center. New to the spa services menu and fitness line-up are unique spa treatments and Kinesis group classes, a full-body, no-impact workout utilizing fluid, natural movement to engage several muscle groups simultaneously.

"It is very exciting to be part of this latest reveal of Oasis of the Seas and to share it with our AAA members as well as the rest of the world," said Doug Bower, vice president, AAA Travel. "AAA Travel and Royal Caribbean International have had a very successful partnership for many years now, and this event takes our relationship to a greater level. We are encouraging all of AAA’s more than 51 million members to take a close look at the exclusive AAA promotions being offered this summer for Oasis of the Seas and other Royal Caribbean ships."

The Pool and Sports Zone will showcase new additions to traditional amenities, including an intimate adults-only Solarium and sports deck that will awe even the most seasoned cruiser. The first Beach Pool at sea will have a sloped entry where guests will be able to wade into the water or relax in colorful beach chairs under an umbrella as the water rolls gently beneath. Two whirlpools will flank either side of the "beach" for guests who prefer warmer waters. Located on the opposite side of the ship from the Beach Pool and separated by Central Park six decks below, is the Main Pool with two side-by-side whirlpools, ideal for rest and relaxation in the sun. Overlooking both pools will be private cabanas, complete with a dedicated attendant. Families looking for fun in the sun will easily spot Royal Caribbean’s signature H2O Zone, marked by a giant octopus with its slides and water-spraying tentacles and surrounded by fellow water-spouting ocean creatures. Separate wading and current pools, as well as a dedicated infant and toddler pool, will be set in the interactive aquatic playground and surrounded by adult and child-sized lounge chairs. The more competitive set will find haven in the Sports Pool, where afternoon water team sports will include basketball, badminton and water polo, while morning hours will be dedicated to lap swimming.

Adults looking for a retreat from the bustle of every day life will find solace in the grandest Solarium yet. Boasting a redefined layout, guests will have the sensation of floating on air from the two-deck high, glass-paneled enclave designed with seating on various “islands” surrounded by water. The open-air Solarium will offer a tranquil swimming pool, two serene whirlpools, and four cantilevered whirlpools suspended 136 feet above the ocean. The mezzanine level of the adult-dedicated area will overlook the pool deck below, offering additional chaise lounges and seating. The new Solarium Bistro will offer casual fare from the Vitality spa menu during the day, and in the evenings, transform into a romantic and intimate setting for specialty dining and dancing under the stars. It is also the perfect venue for a unique late night dance club experience – Club 20 – made popular on the line’s Freedom-class ships.

The Sports Deck in the Pool and Sports Zone also will boast new innovations, including the first zipline at sea, and two of the popular FlowRider surf simulators, flanking either side of the elevated back deck. Royal Caribbean favorites such as the nine-hole miniature golf course, Oasis Dunes, will challenge golfers of different abilities, and the Sports Court, will allow for friendly games of basketball and volleyball. Spectators will be able to cheer flowboarding guests from the Wipe Out Bar or enjoying casual dining at the Wipe Out Café.

Created as the crown jewel of the cruise line’s Vitality program, the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center will encompass various amenities that cater to complete body wellness. As a precursor to any treatment, guests are encouraged to begin the spa experience by unwinding in the calming relaxation rooms. The new Vitality at Sea Spa will include a Thermal Suite, featuring heated tile loungers, saunas and steam rooms; three couples massage suites and seven individual treatment rooms - the largest collection at sea. Kids and teen guests also will find their own dedicated Spa in which to enjoy specially catered services. The Fitness Center will offer vacationers a plentiful and varied selection of the latest cardio and resistance equipment for working out alone or for joining one of the several classes, including spinning, kickboxing, Pilates and yoga. Whether after a satisfying workout or a soothing spa session, the Vitality Café will be a convenient stop for healthy snacks, light meals and refreshing juices.

When she launches in late 2009, Oasis of the Seas will be the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. An architectural marvel at sea, she will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 gross registered tons (GRT), carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and feature 2,700 staterooms. Oasis of the Seas will be the first ship to tout the cruise line’s new neighborhood concept of seven distinct themed areas, which includes Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone and Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness
Center. The ship will sail from her home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Additional information is available at www.oasisoftheseas.com.

It all looks wonderful to me but I am stil scratching my head and wondering will this pool and outdoor deck space be enough. I am sure the RCI team has concluded it will be however the renderings only show a few people out and about on deck and in the pools so it makes one wonder how it will be when she is out to sea with all passengers onboard. Looking forward to the next reveals!

You're going to have four pools located on the pool deck. Also two smaller pools located in the solarium and then the Aqua pool which IMHO will be the best pool as it has tiered decks overlooking the wake. Add to that Central Park, Boardwalk and the Royal Promenade and there will be plenty of room. Not everyone uses the pool areas. I found the Liberty and Navigator to handle the crowds well for their size and number of passengers and the Oasis will be just fine considering her size.

Great RCI announced the layout of the pool decks. I wonder if the Beach Pool and Main Pool is large enough. Lets hope the railings around the Central Park opening is high enough so now one falls below...

Wow, this ship just keeps looking better and better to me. I'm surprised by how many alternative restaurants there are on board, it has to be something like 15 or 20 places to eat at now and there seem to be bars everywhere....

I am not sure, but these renderings look a bit strange to me - are the proportions right? e.g. the balconies and people look rather tiny and not to scale.

I thought the same.
It is all on a small space, but with very high depths at both sides. Not for vertigo sufferers.

yikes. . .i don't like the pool placements at all, like the pool areas but do agree that they look a little small, but it is just a drawing. but i am not a fan of the "caynon" between them or the one by the sports area.

the beach pool is cool, love the zero entry. And the sports area is noting to right home about same old, same old. I don't feel one basket ball court is going to do it for 6000 people however.

That Central Park opening looks to be a great spot for "jumpers" to try out their skills. At least now the ships won't have to stop and then try to find the jumpers in the sea. If interests are high, perhaps they could have bungee cords...lol

Jumpers may prove to be issue but I suspect the biggest problem may turn out to be pigeons !

I like the solarium area and its night time use etc. The rest is well.............nothing special ? Just bigger.

Right aft on the mast at the top above the Wave bar there is a glassed in area - can pax access this - just a look out point ?

So I am sitting on my balcony overlooking the Boardwalk, cold drink in my hand, interesting book, getting ready to relax.

I hear someone yelling and look up to see this...

It strikes me that all the action takes place facing inwards i.e away from the sea and those inner balconies are overlooked from above, below and the opposite facing balconies. I just find it a bit odd, would you pick a land based holiday apartment in a similar complex, but before anyone tells me I don't have to sail on it, I know.

You can compare these inward-facing balconies to the "garden view" rooms found in many land-based resorts. At least, that's how I rationalize it!

I would not book a balcony overlooking the Boardwalk unless you like noise and want to be "in the action". It's a choice which is what OASIS is all about. There is really something for everyone when it comes to staterooms.

I booked an ocean view balcony, and I have a feeling the ocean will look the same be it from a balcony on OASIS or SILVER SHADOW.

I think all the pools look pretty cool, and I like the placement. It will be cool to look down at the ocean on one side, and Central Park on the other. Also, there is really a pool for everyone. Zero entry, main pool, sports pool, and H20 Zone.

In addition, OASIS will feature the largest pool afloat all the way aft (turns into the Aqua Theater by night) and an adults only pool in the Solarium. What is really cool about the aft pool is that the bottom of the pool actually lowers, making it deeper for when they have the performances at night (divers). Personally I think these pool areas will be fairly spacious. There are enough of them, and they are spread out. In addition not everyone will use the pools. Certainly it's more choice than any ship sailing today.

Ernie

You would think this would be the case but then again, you dont really hear about people jumping down the atriums or anything like that and this will be similar to an atrium so i would doubt that it is going to happen too much

Sorry if this was already discussed elsewhere, but I only just saw it in the new OASIS brochure: the Rising Tide Bar. It's an oval-shaped bar and platform which rises through 3 deck levels, taking patrons from the Royal Promenade up to Central Park and back. You go from indoors to outdoors; in effect, you are in a floating bar. Yes, another "gimmick", but an interesting feature.

What is interesting is the relative lack of posts on these new reveals, I recall the first couple attracted huge comment and excitement even, these last 2 neighbourhoods seem to have attracted much less comment - are we already becoming jaded as far as Oasis is concerned or is it that others (a little like me) are not particularly bowled over by these2 neighbourhoods ?

Here's a photo of the actual size of the opening for CP/Boardwalk. Note the workers on the left and their size compared to size of the people in the renderings.

From the renderings it also looks like there will be a high screen on top of the railing overlooking CP/Boardwalk which will prevent people from looking directly down on the balconies.

Overlooking both pools will be private cabanas, complete with a dedicated attendant.

They appear to have little privacy and only appear to be waist high when standing up?

I actually didnt notice the 'high screen' until you mentioned it. Looks like the pool deck renderings and the actual thing are also out of scale, just like they were with Central Park.

I think the main surprise about the 'Oasis' class was the hole in the middle (Central park) the real foliage, the over-looking balcony Cabins and the Boardwalk/Aqua Theatre.

The latest reveals are not dissimilar to features on the freedom and Voyager class.

I must agree with Joe that all the renderings somewhat exaggerate the scale of the ship and make areas of the ship look more spacious than they actually are. I think the renderings may well cause some big disappointments. I wonder if the first passengers who walk through Central Park might just say, "Oh, is this all it is"? Nevertheless: Love it or hate it, we should not take this amazing design for granted!

I wonder if the F3's will have anything more to surprise us?

I'll have to pass on this one. It's simply too big. I have a wife that has issues walking now thanks to chemotherapy. It seems I was justified in suggesting "Largesse of the Seas" and "Excess of the Seas" as names for this monstrosity.
