Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but the talking ads without a shut off feature are driving me crazier than I already am.

Yes, we know, but there is unfortunately no way around it that I know of. The worse part is I surf the net listening to Rhapsody (usually classical music), and the talking ads come out over the top of the music I am playing.

This is the only site where I get the talking ads and they are driving me crazy also, but I just ignore them as they don't last too long.

There are advertisements for a university that go on, and on, and on, and THANKFULLY feature a MUTE option in the ad itself. At last count I think I have won over 250 free iPod Nanos and X-box 360's....

Most ads, whether they talk or not, are entirely optional.

Thanks, that seems to have helped.

I wouldn't say they are "optional" if you have to go and alter your computer setup to avoid them.

I've had issues with the constant barrage of pop-ups this site triggers, and the stupid talking ads are among the worst issue yet.

Deeply annoying, if not yet maddening. Not enough to to avoid visiting here, but still annoying.

Yes, I'd like to say the talking ads are truly annoying, what idiot would ever click on them anyways? Few things in life are free. Seems nearly every page I open on CT there's a talking ad. I'm sure Joe could do something about limiting the level of these types of ads....but perhaps they pay more revenue for the host of this site?

Ok, I have updated the ad settings for this site to block any Wii audio ads. It may be a few hours before it takes effect so bear with me.

Try turning your speakers off (or simply turning the volume down) except when you really need to have sound. Works like a charm.

"Optional" usually implies that you have to do one thing or do another thing.

Installing a good HOSTS file is actually very good at keeping rubbish off your computer. I've noticed very little reduction in normal functionality, because "good" cookies etc are not normally blocked.

The fact that many ads no longer appear is just a bonus side-effect.

Regardless, they were not optional. And folks ought not need to mute their computer every time they visit every other page.

In any case, my thanks to Joe for turning them off.
