From Fort Lauderdale's Sun Sentinel:

"SeaEscape, the casino day cruise ship harbored at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades, will be sold to the highest bidder at a Broward County Courthouse auction Oct. 16.

District Judge Ursula Ungaro last week ordered the ship, formally known as the M/V Island Adventure, be sold by the U.S. Marshal after the ship's owner, SeaEscape Entertainment, was unable to sell the vessel or acquire financing required to repay creditors' debts.

SeaEscape stopped sailing Aug. 10. A court ordered the ship detained, after some crew members said they had not been paid wages. Wage claims and other debts will be deducted from the proceeds of the sale."

Will be interesting to see what her future holds....?

Most likely she'll be sold to the scrappers. Her scrap value is $3 million, and only $1-$2 million as an operating vessel. See story here: SeaEscape.

She might be of interest to Stelios who was looking for a larger ship to replace his easyCruiseOne.

No doubt a re-fit in a Greek ship-yard would cost less than in some other areas.

There are several parties which are interested in purchasing her. And I'm not talking about scrap merchants.

It should be interesting to see how much they would be willing to spend to acquire her, however.

Best,

Raoul

Tony,

I don't think Mr Hey has access to the funds required to purchase her - particularly in the current global financial crisis situation. Here in Germany, two smaller but highly regarded shipyards (Cassens and Lindenau) have filed for insolvency recently because the banks have hastily revoked their financing for newbuilds. That is despite the fact that e.g. Lindenau is booked with newbuilds until 2011.

It is not a good time for anybody interested in purchasing her. All I can say is that I have heard that there are at least two European investors interested in acquiring tonnage and she was among the ships mentioned as probably interesting.

Best,

Raoul

Hasn't easycruise already got a larger second ship and aren't they sailing it?

mec1,

easyCruise does have "easyCruise Life", but they are also looking for additional tonnage as a replacement for "easyCruiseOne", which is for sale.

I understand that "Ugo Foscolo", one of "easyCruise Life's" sister ships which had been spending several years under arrest in Greece has recently been sold - but not to easyCruise as far as I know.

Best,

Raoul

the island adventure would be more suited for imperial majesty cruises instead of the waist expanding (waterline) ferry they bought....jeff

I could see a trading future for ISLAND ADVENTURE for sure, this class of vessels seems to be quite handy and useful for a lot of smaller operators.

I am a bit worried about one of her sisterships (ENCHANTED CAPRI). I think she is/was used by some Mexican oil company as an accomodation ship/shuttle ferry, but I haven't heard anything about her for ages.

By the way, the UGO FOSCOLO sold? Interesting, certainly, but she will require a LOT of work. Have you seen recent pictures of her? She looks really derelict and has been laid up since 2004 at least.

Brgds.

Thanks!

The ship has just been sold, for $3.6 million, but the exact owner and disposition of the vessel seem a bit confusing and unknown at this moment. See story here: SeaEscape.

Thanks Rich!

Anastasios N Kyriakides was the first Chairman of Regency Cruises in 1984 and left in 1986 to set up Sea Venture Cruises (remember NOAH'S ARK?) He then later established Tropicana Cruises which folded in 1989 and then Seawind Cruise Line which, after many delays and disputes, finally got going with the chartered VASCO DA GAMA (aka SEAWIND CROWN).

I didn't know he was still in the business but it will be interesting to see what he does with ISLAND ADVENTURE.

All appears a bit dodgy to me. A Greek 'conversion' in the offing? None of this class have ever made it to Greek Ownership before.

In 1996 Tyki was in Tampa, had two companies Royal Adventure. He managed to secure some funding from investors and leased the REGENT SUN. Albeit - as with all Tyki's ventures - it folded. the only one who made some money was the little Greek! Also this "venture" will ultimately fold...aka Noah's Ark. The modus operadin is always the same. Get a fancy name, a ship or a stock company collect funds from unsuspecting poor souls and the rest is history. Here another failed venture of the same scenario with this outfit:INTERLINK

There is more information about the players and the deals in today's news, although is does grate on my nerves to see the newspaper and the owners call the vessel a "boat!"
