What is supposed to happen with this ship after its tenure with NCL? Does anyone have any idea?

NORWEGIAN DREAM is already taken off NCL's website. I wonder where they will lay her up.

Probably Freeport, Bahamas, where so many ships have languished over the years.

As far as I'm concerned they can just scrap NORWEGIAN DREAM. No big loss.

NORWEGIAN DREAM is currently docked in Boston having finished her Bermuda cruise programme. I don't know when she's sailing, but AIS is showing an ETA at Freeport, Bahamas, of 9 November.

Presumably lay up?

Evidentally clapped out cruise ships are ideal for use as hotels, conference centres, museums etc - surely someone wants ND for open of these purposes - maybe some in Norway ? I'm surprised there hasn't been a campaign.............

Sorry choking on my tongue got to go.

On another forum, crew aboard the ship were apparently told it would be laid up at Freeport for approximately a month. It was reasonably suggested this implies further employment after that. Whether this is with NCL or not is the big question.

I must admit to being quite intrigued as to what lies ahead for NORWEGIAN DREAM! Despite all earlier comments about scrapping etc, I have very fond memories of a Baltic cruise on her some years ago and don't recall being upset with any aspect of the trip.

I understand that her owners, Star Cruises, consider adding her to their fleet in Asia, probably as a kind of replacement for the "SuperStar Gemini", which has been sold. That is if they don't find a buyer, soon.

Let's hope Star Cruises won't ruin her as much as they ruined "Norwegian Wind".

@dmwnc1: She is not owned by NCL so why should they worry about her fate? NCL wanted to get rid of her in the first place so why should they keep them if nobody else wants her. They have just chartered her from Star Cruises for the last couple of years and that charter has ended.

Best,

Raoul

Did NCL get rid of her because she is older tonnage?

Yes, and because Freestyle Cruising simply doesn't work on her half as well as on the ships purposely built for it.

Best,

Raoul

Star Cruises already has the Wasa Queen being laid up while the SuperStar Libra is rumoured to follow in January. I wonder they will need extra capacity and spend that money to refit the ship (with more casino space ). I heard that they are transferring shipboard crew members to shoreside casino in Philipines with much better salary and other benefits.

She also tends to to earn less per pax and her running costs are also higher than the newer ships. NCL are well rid of her. Majesty next.

It seems pretty soon SUPERSTAR VIRGO will be transferred to NCL and Star Cruises will fold...

They are sisters - BORE STAR became WASA QUEEN, WELLAMO is now JUPITER and SVEA CORONA was later Epirotiki's PEGASUS which caught fire in Venice, sank and was later broken up in 1995.
