From Lloyds List:

"BREMERHAVEN-based shipyard Lloyd Werft has won a €50m contract from TUI Cruises to refit the first ship in its new cruise brand.

The conversion of Celebrity Cruises’ Galaxy will take place next year between March and May when the ship will be christened in Hamburg.

According to TUI Cruises’ chief executive Richard Vogel: “In Lloyd Shipyards we have found a partner that has amassed a great deal of experience particularly in converting ships.”

“Lloyd Werft managing director Werner Luken said the order had been won against national and international competition and “once again highlights this shipyard’s competitiveness and productive efficiency in its core business. The extensive work will be carried out together with numerous partner firms in just 38 days and will keep the entire shipyard infrastructure busy,” he said.

The work will include increasing the number of cabins with balconies. When completed the ship will have a total of 974 cabins, 653 of which will be outside cabin and 430 with balconies."

Now "MEIN SCHIFF" was chosen as the new name of the ship... (= "My ship")...

Here one impression from TUI website:

Larger Version

I cannot say that I like it... blue hull: OK! But the words.. the name: horrible!

IEEEE Thats a horrible name. Some one was not having his/here day at the office when picking this name. Agree with you Karsten the words on the hull looks not nice to put it friendly. Dark hull always good. No there British counter part Thompson have better names. Missed change.

Greetings Ben.

TUI says:

"On the deep blue background of the ship’s hull are catchphrases such as “Sound of the sea“ and “Calm“, which in their composition put across the idea behind the Mein Schiff and as such behind the new concept of holidaying at sea. The lettering has the character of handwriting and so conveys a very personal touch."

What absolute c***!!!

I hope they do not mess up the beautiful public rooms. Only the Savoy Lounge needs an ax.

Some of the cabins, and high traffic areas have scuff marks. The elevators need work too.
The aircon and engines are noisy, but not a big problem.

I guess the next ships will be named "Dein Schiff" (Your Ship) and "Sein/Ihr Schiff" (His/Her Ship).

m/v Mein Schiff.

Well it is not a name is it. Its a description. Its awful. May as well call it "my pointy ended thing".

Do we have the first cruise ship without a name ? A joke.

As for the hull "art" - well it too isn't art. I thought TUI wanted to be a little up market ? What a come down for poor Galaxy.

Well I suppose it will match the hammocks.

Obviously the German TUi market is quite unique - it is as good (or bad) as their Eurovision Song Contest entries.(for our Amex members picture bad bad bad rock/pop band in 60s outfits wearing masks and platform boots and climbing on scaffolding while shouting out some unidendifiable words).

Not quite sure I understand this reference to American Express...am I missing something...

Personally, I don't mind the hull...the lettering and words remind me of our some carpeting has the signatures of authors written on it...some theatres have the names of composers inscribed on the walls....it is stirring emotions and dreams (I think of statrlight on a midnight blue sky). I amnot crazy about Mein Schiff - reminds me of My Travel. I don'tmind the concept of the hull design at all.

So it looks like her renovation will be similar in scope to the Century's, including all the new balconies.

Hate to be contrarian but I don't mind the new livery. It is different and sort of interesting. Surely we don't need anymore ships with all white liveries!!!

For example I don't get excited about P&O Australia's new livery. In fact I thought it looked best when it was launched publicly in Sydney when colorful tropical scenes were superimposed along its big white hull.

As for the name, I guess it is seen as meeting the market TUI are after. Just as airline names such as EasyJet or JetStar don't show a lot of imagination, the do appeal to their market.

The interior images look nice... though I'm not sure about tunring the observation lounge into a space with floor pillows and bean bag chairs. A bit too clever!

Pretty bad. I'd have painted the blue only to the bottom of the boat deck and then tapered it upward towards the bow. I really like the idea of the blue-grey paint except for the silly graffitti all over it.

The ship looks like she got stuck in a bad neighborhood and got graffiti scrawled all over her hull.

One slip on the hammocks on the balconies and you will have people swimming after Mein Schiff. Not safe I would have thought.

hi everbody,

i am a "silent reader" in this forum, but today i think i have to write something.

the name "mein schiff" is not the final name of the new tui ship. there is a lottery for the name. everyone can suggest a name, and then a jury decide to pick the best...see mein schiff

i also think the hull art is not the final one. these words on the hull are only for marketing and stands for feelings and things you get know when you will travel with tui cruises.

so, i guess we have to wait until the 15th may to get to know what the ship will be named and looked like.

with kind regards,

michael from germany

I think the competition has already taken place, in conjunction with the magazine Bunte and the name subsequently chosen. It's been reported that more than 11,000 people sent in over 30,000 ideas and "Mein Schiff" was the most suggested name.

Cripes need my glases checked thought Karstens had written "final nail.........." for a moment.

So what they are getting is Aida RCI version, not a true different type of traditional up market cruise product as originally advertised ?

This is utter lunacy.....and I thought the hull art on NCL had no class. What a nightmare. Fortunately, I won't have to see it in all likelihood.
