Seems that Southampton is unlikely to see Oasis of the Seas next year according to Travel Weekly:-

quote:
RCCL has ruled out bringing Oasis of the Seas to Southampton en route to its home port of Fort Lauderdale in Florida next year.
Chief Executive Richard Hain said the ship was designed for sunny weather, with lots of outdoor space and naturally lit areas. He said “We would love to bring the ship to Southampton but visitors would not be able to see it at its best if the weather was bad.
Associate Vice President and General manager UK & Ireland Jo Rzymowska had been hoping the ship would stop in Southampton but said it was unlikely.
“We would have loved for the ship to visit Southampton”
RCCL are in discussions to identify a Godmother for the ship.

Shame...

Andrew

RCCL is being very careful about who is allowed access to Oasis of the Seas and where. They clearly don't want any of her shortcomings to be exposed. Sounds like Sarah Palin would be the perfect godmother.

What shortcomings, apart from she's very big?

Time of year has a lot to do with it. They are bringing her over to the US to handle the planting of the grass, trees and plants. No shortcomings about this ship.

Or when Joe Biden 'disapeared' after yet another one of his infamous gaffes during the campaign.

I don't think the tropicals would care for Southampton in the winter (or summer for that matter )

University of Miami......the original in Oxford, Ohio, actually has a line of Palm trees that can grow in harsh winter weather.

What I'm really curious about, is if the ship is coming together on-time.

Is this news? I thought RCI had made this clear a long time ago and it was to do with the sensitivity of the Central PArk area, and for the same reason the ship would not be calling in New York either.

Fact is they don't need to bring her to the UK, when she arrives in Fort Lauderdale there will be no shortage of news stories on almost every news channel and no doubt a Discovery documentary on her as well.

Plus why raise the UK's pax expectation as compared to other RCCL ships based in the UK and Med when there is almost no chance of her being based in these markets for a long time to come.

You never know, the "new" one off F3 may be not so bad, nice big theatre, huge dining room, free entertainment..............everything it was supposed not to be. Might have a MSC club deck or 2 for those who paid more with special bars, lounges, pool, food, parties etc.

A cross between MSC and Cunard !

Exactly the same point could have been made about Freedom of the Seas but she still called here en route - and at the time there was no indication that Independence was to be UK based.

Oasis will certainly be big news, but I thought that en route port calls are to generate business that will travel to sail, not about raising local expectations per se.
