When Royal Caribbean announced it was selling its 50% stake in Island Cruises to First Choice (the other partner), Richard Fain declared ISLAND STAR would be shifted to Pullmantur on her return to Europe from the Caribbean in April. However, Pullmantur has just also taken delivery of SOVEREIGN (ex OF THE SEAS) and with the Spanish recession, I can't see Pullmantur able to take yet another ship, let alone fill all the berths they already have, even considering their disposal of OCEANIC at the end of 2009.
For these reasons, I think it more likely that ISLAND STAR will go to RCI's French subsidiary to join BLEU DE FRANCE.

If the price is right, I think RCI would sell ISLAND STAR to anyone, rival or not. In the same vein, I suspect Carnival would rather get rid of HOLIDAY completely, rather than transfer her to Iberocruceros next year as GRAND HOLIDAY. Shifting older ships from one brand to another is not really going to help if all the relevant markets they serve are all in recession.
