Contrary to earlier reports on this forum that FLAMENCO I had been sold by Club Cruise last summer, this appears not to have been the case. See this from Seatrade Insider:

"The Singapore Admiralty Court has granted an order today for the sale of arrested vessel Flamenco I, owned by collapsed Dutch operator Club Cruise. Seatrade Insider understands the sheriff’s office is now arranging for a surveyor to appraise the ship prior to advertising the sale and date of auction.
The 17,000gt cruise ship has been under arrest in Singapore since early December after creditors filed a suit against the ship claiming unpaid bills.

Flamenco was acquired by Club Cruises as New Flamenco in 2007 and spent time under charter to Spain’s Globalia prior to the tour operator pulling out of cruising. The ship has been at anchor off Singapore since last July.

As earlier reported here, bondholders at a meeting in November in Oslo approved measures including ship sales after Club Cruise defaulted on interest payments.

It is likely other Club Cruise ships Van Gogh and Alexander von Humboldt will also go to auction. A date has yet to be set for Alexander von Humboldt, currently laid up in Bremerhaven. Michael Schulze, md of Phoenix Reisen, which continues to charter Albatros, says the German operator is interested in acquiring Alexander von Humboldt. ‘We are still waiting for the situation to be resolved and for the auction to take place as soon as possible,’ he tells Seatrade Insider. The aim is to have the ship back in operation for the start of the summer season on May 3."

So what happened to the 'sale' of FLAMENCO which Club Cruise showed in their accounts resulting in a loss of €9.5m. Was it ficticious or was there a buyer who defaulted for some reason?

Every ship will have a breakdown at some time or another.

Yes! In July 1991 as STARSHIP MAJESTIC, she had an engine room fire off Freeport and had to be towed back to Port Canaveral for repairs.

In July 1999 as FLAMENCO, on the first day of a cruise from Kiel, she suffered propulsion problems which resulted in the cancellation of that cruise.

In July 2006 as NEW FLAMENCO, she had a temporary engine failure as she was manouevring in Ibiza and collided with the mega yacht LADY MOURA.

She actually looks quite sharp, in much better condition then Aegean Pearl.

I wonder if Louis would consider purchasing her at auction!

She along w/many of her early 1970s contemporaries were designed and built when exterior aesthetics were still very important.

Imagine a similar size ship today having that sweeping forcastle, interesting window design and elegant stern. The P&O funnel was always a bit odd but a very attractive ship overall IMO.

The Admiralty Court in Singapore require bids for Flamenco 1 to be made by the 22nd February 2009.

A very large pdf file, from the court, with photos of the ship is now on the ' cruisingtalk ' website.

Hi Pam M

That is the Singapore website.

I find that the ' crusingtalk ' website is a far easier website for adding files and photos than on here.

once auction'd off to the highest bidder....she would be a great candidate for a floating hotel during the 2010 winter olympic's here in vancouver, then transfer the ship to our esquimalt shipyard in victoria and do whatever refurbishment's that would have to be done for the new owner....canadian $ is looking quite good to the american's and european's right now...just a thought....jeff

Maybe Gerry Herrod bought the Flamenco too..wouldn't that be nice...would be a perfect ship for him too. The Aegean and Flamenco...a great match! I doubt she would have been low enough for Scrap Dealers as the metal price is not too awfully high and she still has alot of life left in her!!

She might find use with somone like Mano Cruises or Louis (even that would be doubtful) but I don't think Herrod would even look at her, tiny tiny cabins, limited public space, limited deck space, and a bit of a clunker. Compared to other ships he has been involved with (I don't know much about Aegean I) she is vastly inferior.

Yes Louis may have an interest in her as she is nearly identical to some other ships of their fleet.

I don't think for a moment Louis will consider this ship. For a start, they have moved on to much more modern tonnage - CRISTAL and NORWEGIAN MAJESTY later this year and secondly, I have read that 2009 is to be a period of "consolidation" for them - ie no more ships until the global situation improves.

The Singapore Admiralty Court website is today listing the Flamenco 1 as sold.

This is the second time she has been shown as sold so it will be interesting to see what happens to her this time.

Although there had been doubts about the 1972 built ex ' Spirit of London / ' Sun Princess ' she still continues to operate cruises between Pattaya and Koh Kong in Cambodia.

Link to their website below with bookings being accepted until May 2016 !
