Sorry that's only in French so far but this is the result of a study program (ECORIZON) done by STX Europe ST Nazaire shipyard for a future cruise ship designed for reducing the energy consumption by two:

http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=109780

A lot of interesting renderings anyway.

Kind of a cross between Radison Diamond, Windstar and Oasis of the Seas.

Quite like it but wouldn't want to berth her from the bridge.

Actually, its a very attractive concept, but I cannot imagine anyone building it.

We've been seeing a lot of concept ships with the X bow lately. When are we going to see a production ship with this new design?

I don't find it one bit appealling, it's a torture to my eyes.

Fun to look through, thanks. I am sure we have seen a 'future' ship with a similar fwd superstructure before? but I can't think of the name at present. This one looks like a floating 747 complete with engines from some angles I think the lifeboats would disappear in the first storm she encountered.

There are actually quite few already - e.g. look at the Ulstein webpage or watch this video.

Ha! I knew the tall ship would come back in some form. It's interesting to see trad sails instead of some high-tech airfoil system.

The ship's beam is f-ing huge! Forget berthing her from the bridge... try berthing her period! Her beam is only 2 meters narrower than Knock Nevis. Besides, where would you dry-dock a Dodge-Island-Max vessel like that?

It would be interesting if a future oil shortage would render air travel obsolete, and we'd be looking at the France II...

These is a great concept project. Eventually some of these ideas will make it to a real project and some will not. Ships will definitely continue evolving with new technologies and design ideas introduced. The inverted bow or X-bow is certainly what we will be seeing more and more in the near future and eventually become the preferred bow design for new-builds, this improves maneuverability, greater resistance in rough seas and higher speeds as well as reducing fuel consumption. There are already some great examples of this today such as the Bourbon Orca and sister ships developed by the Ulstein Group as well as a few mega yachts such as "A", Predator and a few under construction.

I am sorry it looks dumb. The bow is ok but the rest of the ship looks horrible to me.

Wow, I love the ECORIZON, as the price of bunker fuel goes up ( it will ) I am sure we will end up seeing something like this.

And here's the video now:

http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=109816

Still in French but it probably exists an English version somewhere (I didn't check where), since the project has been presented to the Miami's Seatrade at the begining of the week.

I think it looks really cool, and probably more environmentally friendly. Doubt it will ever become a reality, but pretty cool ideas!

Read this afternoon that STX did not complete the whole reveal at Miami because during the week they found a buyer for the project !

Could only be Carnival Corp. So who knows we may see her actually floating in about 5 years.

I don't know didn't Carnival sell off windjammer? Maybe NCL might try something really different in ship innovation with something like this

I don't think STX will be willing to go anywhere near NCL again.

Had a mail from a friend at a famous Italian yard last night.

What seems clear now is that is actually 2 different Future designs from STX, the one was not unveiled at Miami as it was mean't to have been because days before the unveiling they in effect got a buyer, from the description it does sound similar to the pics we have seen with the sunken pool deck, all balcony staterooms and is about 130,000grt but I don't think it has sails on it.
