I learned something new today. The Disney ships have aft anchors. I saw a photo of the ships in drydock with a large opening under the stern. I never knew what this was. But a new photo today revealed the mystery. They have an anchor hidden under there that can be dropped directly under the stern without being visible.

That made me wonder...what other modern ships have aft anchors. I know the Grand-class ships do as well as a RCI's Vision-class. What others am I missing, and do you have photos?

Actually, many large ocean going passenger ships have an anchor (or anchors) at the stern.

Yes, Sovereign, Monarch and Majesty of the Seas all have visible third aft anchor.

PRIDE of AMERICA has a stern anchor too.

The R-class ships all have aft anchors. But do any other ships have "hidden" aft anchors like Disney Magic and Wonder? That's something I've never seen before.

I would be curious if there is a requirement for passenger vessels to carry an aft anchor

I don't think so. QM2 does not have one.

I wonder if a ship w/traditional shaft and screw layout need them. Ships like QM2 use their PODS to keep the vessel in a certain position while 'anchored'.

Most liners that sailed the St Lawrence route had aft anchors to prevent the ship from swinging while anchored in the river.

not Destiny class or Conquest. The S-Class from HAL has them I think? I can't remember. Wind Surf has.

The former Renaissance ships have them as well. That would be ships like Nautica, Insignia, Regatta, Royal Princess etc. Of course QE2 had hers.
