Have any of you hardcore posters ever agreed upon a single ship and sailing date and taken a group cruise? Could be fun to spend a week talking ships onboard with like-minded folks.

Thats a great idea! I would love to talk face to face with some CTer's about certain topics/issues. The only problem would be finding a cruise that meets everyones schedule, what ship to do it on etc.etc. Great i=dea though.

If recent posts on this site are any indication of how folk would get along, I think we would need a "sports injury" practicioner to deal with all the body blows, and a libel/slander lawyer to keep track of the verbal barbs tossed about!!!
It would be fun and interesting to meet some of the regulars here, but you are correct in that there would never in a million years be agreement on the cruise line, let alone the ship.

Can you really imagine this happening?

I have been on cruises with other Cruise Talkers (on purpose) but I would not call them Cruise Talk group cruises.
See this for example. That was not so much a group cruise as an, "I am going on this, who else wants to come?"

I think a time and itinerary that is convenient/affordable for everyone is even a bigger obstacle.

Sorry to be a killjoy, but: The fact that we live all over the world, have different financial constraints, time constraints and ship/line preferences would make this rather difficult.

(Not to mention some of us appear not to like each other much) ;-)

I think I remember Joe tried to do such a cruise a few years back on QM2, and it just didn't work out. Too few were able to meet the schedule for a group discount. A nice idea, but too difficult for the reasons Malcolm gave and others.

That would be in the news several passengers overboard during cruise. Passengers described the scene as WW3 quality and I thought I was on a cruise to hell

I think it's impossible to organize. And agree with is written in post before.

Greetings Ben.

What if were for sometime like November 2010? Is that far enough out for our friends abroad to plan ahead?

I recall vividly. As Malcolm said we are just too far apart with schedules, budgets, and geography.

I have met 17 or so cruisetalkers in person. An internet personality and face to face personality are quite different.

I remember also.

I recall that it would have been best to organise two : an european one and an american one. Crossing the atlantic for a short cruise wasn't an option for most

It is an attractive plan, though

Let's all buy lottery tickets! Winner gets to pick the cruise but has to pay for everone else.

Lets just say we hypothetically do this. Can we even agree on a ship in the first place. Im pretty sure there isn't one ship we've never critizied.
