Thanks for the pics Carlos. This poor tub is butt ugly from any angle ... side, front, back, all hideous I'm afraid.

Even so, I can't wait to sail on her.

Finally there is a ship that makes PRIDE OF AMERICA look beautiful!

Beauty, grace, flawless design. . . just a few of the qualities missing from THIS barge. (But I'm sure she has a great personality!)

Actually, she has a very nice front area... If we forget all the stuff above the bridge.

If we think ahead 20 years, surely someone will want to save her as a museum/hotel ship. Any suggestions for which port would be the best match for the Epic?

This looks like it's been cobbled together from the spare parts bin at Alang. We need a new word that surpasses ugly.

I agree with Ernie... she's not a beautiful ship, yet I can't wait to sail on her... more so than Oasis.

USA Today travel writer, Gene Sloan, posted impressions from a shipyard tour this weekend (as well as some interior and pool deck photos). His comments were very positive considering the early stage of construction.

I also am very intrigued by this ship, more so than the OASIS OF THE SEAS. I could easily see myself booking this. The idea of one of those Studio Cabins in interesting.

Today's Miami Herald has a feature article about the Studio Cabins:

EPIC Studio Cabins

They're being positioned and marketed almost as a youth hostel or college dorm experience. ( I wonder if the same people who resent being excluded from the top suite facilities will resent being excluded from the Studio Lounge.)

I'm not sure what you mean "come up with something else to do in this world"? Perhaps you can elaborate?

Just because the exterior of a ship is ugly doesn't mean I won't sail on it or have a great time. After all, when I'm sailing on the ship I'm not exactly looking at the exterior. While I would be thrilled if ships looked more like LEONARDO DA VINCI, this is simply not the case anymore.

As ugly as EPIC is, she looks promising and I think she will be an exciting ship to sail on. I've already booked a Spa Suite but it's unfortunate I have to wait over a year to get on the ship.

Gadzooks, what a nightmare!

This ship makes the Grand Class Princesses looks stunning. And as far as the interior goes.....let's just say that I had not planned on vacationing aboard the starship Enterprise just yet. NCL never ceases to amaze me. They're either suicidal or just plain stupid.

This was an interesting article. It definitely exemplifies the direction NCL has been taking and will continue to take. Basically marketing to a younger, non-traditional cruiser.

It started with Freestyle. Breaking tradition to eat when you want and dress how you please.

Next we have Wii in the lobby. Very trendy and the twenty-somethings love it.

Add in some rock climbing walls and 24 hour gyms ... again appealing to a younger generation.

Then there is the Ultra Bliss Lounge, very trendy with beds and bowling. It reminds me of Ten Pin Alley which some cities like Miami, Atlanta, NY, and LA have. Again, very non-traditional and geared towards the younger generation.

EPIC really takes everything to the next level. More restaurants, more entertainment, more sports activities, less formality, exclusive adults only clubs, studio cabins, private villas, etc. etc. EPIC will even have a small casino poolside. Very Las Vegas like just like Blue Man Group ... Las Vegas style entertainment. If there was ever a ship geared to attract the Vegas or South Beach vacationer I think EPIC is it.

All in all I think a good strategy for NCL. I wish them well.

Ernie

OH WOW! The thing about the bridge is pretty hideous, but as a whole, the ship is not that bad. Better than I imagine. Perhaps, her length stretches everything out.

I was thinking about how NCL came up with the name EPIC. There is actually a new hotel and residences in downtown Miami called Epic. I have to wonder if there is where NCL got the name from?
http://www.epichotel.com/

I'm not complaining, because at least it's original and no other ship has the name. Lord knows we have enough ships named Dream, Magic, Liberty, Freedom, Spirit, Legend, Voyager, Pride, etc.

Intersting...the decor looks like that of a cruise ship and the outdoor bar area looks like a ships deck!

I love this building, it is mostly a condo and part hotel with shared services, here's the official site. The interior is very much like Celebrity Solstice so it would be very appealing for those who like her. I had to follow the construction of this building for a materials class and had to be there every week for about three months; the building was also completed at about the same time Celebrity Solstice was finished.

Attached is a great slide show of EPIC's float out and som onboard pictures. It was produced by NCL. Be sure to use the arrow to start at the beginning. For some reason it's starts more in the middle.
