The buyer is named as Artania Shipping, but who are they?

MS Artania Shipping will just be the name of a company set up for her purchase, whoever is behind it.Boudicca is owned by Boudicca Cruise Ltd, Albatros by Albatros Shipping Ltd..
One could perhaps guess she may be renamed Artania - nice imo.

I expect Fred and Saga are breathing a sigh of relief as it effectively gives them a load of more senior cruisers who enjoy small ships.
So glad I have done a cruise on her, she will always be remebered fondly by me as being linked to the late Princess of Wales.
And without her, we would might never have seen the tiered wedding stern that we see on Aurora and Oriana.

I cruised her in 1998 and it wasnt terrible. I booked a Cat AC suite if I remember correctly. At the time I thought her to be quaint and intimate. Would be curious to know what made your experience so awful.
It is a nice name, but it must have some meaning.

What always becomes lost to me is who owns the holding companies.
Albatros has been owned by Albatros shipping since 2006, but this was owned by Club Cruise and Albatros chartered to Phoenix Reisen. Subsequentlly Phoenix Reisen bought Albatros Shipping in March this year and now own Albatros.
Amadea is always referred to as being under long term charter to Phoenix Reisen. So who owns Amadea Shipping? Phoenix Reisen or a 3rd party?
Artania Shipping may or may not be under the Phoenix Reisen hat. Do you know Raoul?
In the scheme of things, I get that all ships must go, but I would rather have seen the Holiday, Pacific Sun and Grand Celebration go first. This trend setter still has all those great balconies, that the Carnival ships don't have.

Pam,
Phoenix always pretends to be nothing but a company that charters vessels. They won't discuss that topic, at all.
However, I understand they have been involed in "Amadea's" ownership from the very beginning. I have no idea what the exact ownership structure is, however. It also appears that they have owned "Albatros" for quite some time already, which appears to be the reason why she was almost unaffected by the Club Cruise failure. In retrospective, it appears that Club Cruise no longer owned her (if they actually owned her at all at one point) when the company collapsed. This is most confusing to say the least.
Also, Phoenix owns the riverboat "Aurelia" but they claim it is owned by Scylla Tours and only chartered.

I visited the Artemis a few weeks ago and I found her lovely and very modern for her age...I wonder what is causing your dislike for this ship ?

I have fond memories of this ship as I worked on Royal Princess for two contracts in 1988/89 in the Purser's Office. At that time the Royal was considered to be one of the largest and most advanced ships around. She was built in a very high quality standard even in crew areas.
In 1989 we did Europe for the first time and I can still remember the attention we got. One our way to Europe we were with Canberra in Madeira. In those days passengers could visit the other ship. While the Americans on the Royal were not the slightest interested in Canberra, The Royal was full of Brits. They even changed the on board charging system so they could pay cash in pounds. The Brits didn't like her at all as the ship did just have a couple of vert large lounges instead of lots of small ones on Canberra. Strange considering that she still ended up with P&O.
Crew wise it was a vey good ship to work on with a good atmosphere. Despite that the British officers were more formal stand offish and strict in maintaining their own lower middle class feudal system.
I think Princess at that time was still a very classy cruise line. Passengers were 99 percent American and pretty old.
Last February while on the RSVP Eurodam we were docked next to her in Grand Turk. Sorry to see she looked pretty neglected, negelcted and not very well maintained. The British passengers responded very nice being docked next to a a ship full of "gentlemen who knew how to party very well"
Phoenix Reisen has now issued a press release confirming that "Artemis" is to be operated by them as the "Artania" from May 28th, 2011. A five-week drydocking is planned ahead of her maiden voyage, which - among other refurbishments - will include her being turned into a ship with only one dinner seating. No word yet on how they plan to do that.
