I dont remember if anyone mentioned what that 'rocket launcher' on her was for? Is that for her own fireworks show or something?

That is actually a crane built into the ship to allow them to easily lift things out of and lower things into Central Park.

I had read too that none of the trees and foilage will be planted into CP until the ship docks in Florida?

Even for her massive size, she is still a great looking ship. The only negative is the exterior promenade deck is gone and being designated as a jogging track but still plenty of areas to view the sea.

For the first time that I can remember, I'm unsure if I am excited about a new ship.

The total lack of connection with the sea, unless I'm over the back of the ship, or 180 feet off the surface of it, just does NOT sit well with me. I'll sail on it, no question, and for any cruise, I'm excited.

Yet I spend exceptional amounts of time along the external promenades, and this ship simply and alarmingly doesn't have one. Maybe I'm missing something, maybe those boats are supposed to be lower on a regular basis, but did they actually go and build a ship with no external viewing of the ocean except for the upper and aft decks?

Honestly, I don't think that RCI had the typical cruiser in mind when they developed Oasis. RCI has stated for many years that their main competition was not the other cruise lines but Vegas and Disney Parks. This design is going straight for those type consumers. For the ones that want the connection with the sea, there are still the smaller ships in the fleet and of course the move up to Celebrity for an even more traditional cruise.

I am interested to see what RCI comes up with next. Do they tweak the Freedom class or go smaller? Of course one has to wonder with the recent economic situation, how long it will be before RCI places an order for a new build.

Actually that is the Boardwalk and I would expect it to be a little more covered due to the Viking Crown Lounge/Sky Suites structure that is built over the top. Hopefully the pool area will get some sunlight but the remainder will be mostly covered.

Gordan, I have a feeling the next class of ships built will be somewhere in the 100k range or maybe the SOLSTICE-class. Two OASIS-class ships seems to be plenty of beds to fill, and RCI already has a good amount of VOYAGER/FREEDOM-class ships.

I was looking at those three new photos from today and I noticed something that I have somehow missed for the past year+. Decks 6, 7, & 8 are all taller than the rest. If you look at a side angle you see a clear white line above the balconies on each floor. At the front and back of the balconies you can see the white stripe connect to the ship. Deck (5) 6 and 7 are hold the Royal Promenade and then deck 8 is the main deck for Central Park. Not sure if that is related to why the decks are taller than the rest. It may just be that those are still steel and deck 9+ are all made of lighter metals like they had to do with the Voyager class.

I noticed that as well. I wonder if that was needed to keep the center of gravity lower or that they needed heigher ceilings on those decks. There are interiors facing public rooms on some of those decks which could have required a higher ceiling.

Too bad that the rear 3 tenders/lifeboats actually obstruct the view from the dining room windows. All this space and yet they can't create a clear line of site from it's primary public room. Not the greatest design.

The cornflower blue hull doesn't do the ship any favors either.

I'm sure it will be a mind-boggling experience to sail her, but I'm not in a huge rush to do so.

Externally, Oasis is probably the least attractive ship from RCI in sometime... maybe ever (Viking Serenade excepted).
