Hi all,

Early 2008 MSC placed the last newbuild orders for quite a while. Later, they were named as MSC FAVOLOSA and something similar. Then, it transpired the order wasn't confirmed and that MSC and STX France were working on modifying the design (enlarging it). Afterwards, everything went silent.

Does anyone know what the status of these orders is now?

The new orders were on - then off - but are back on course again. MSC MERAVIGLIA is due in 2011 and MSC FAVOLOSA in 2012.

They were originally meant to be somewhere between the two but were subsequently downsized to the same size as the Musica-class at 93,000gt and 2,550 pax.

FANTASIA and SPLENDIDA remain the largest at 137,936gt and there are no current orders for any more that big.

Thanks Tony!

This is going to be confusing by the way, as one of Costa's upcoming newbuilds will also be named COSTA FAVOLOSA...

Hi Ralph

Costa has COSTA DELIZIOSA due at the end of January. Its two other newbuilds have not yet been named. FAVOLOSA still remains unique with MSC!!

hi Tony,

i think that piece of news missed you

Costa's next two ships are named
Costa Favolosa (2011) and Costa Fascinosa (2012)

so this to do with the rivalry between those two
companies Costa and MSC???

namewise it will be all confusing yes...

regards
Joe

Thanks Joe and apologies Ralph!

Confusion will indeed (and does) reign with COSTA FAVOLOSA in 2011 and MSC FAVOLOSA in 2012.

Curently, MSC has not confirm order for the 2 new ships around 100 000 tons (a new design between Musica and Fantasia)

STX Europe Saint-Nazaire and french governement are working on the ships's financialing.

We hope a firm order before the 25 february 2010. The MSC Magnifica will be delivered at this date.
