I know, not exactly from the Times ...

Daily mail article

Sounds rather hysterical ... such a shame for the 21 dresses

Make sure you read the whole article.

At the top I was thinking they deserved the money they got until I made it to the bottom where it started listing all the things they were refunded, including more than the cost of the remainder of the sailing. I think the QV is a disgrace to the Cunard name and the issues they experienced should have been avoided but I don't think they should have gotten the 7,500 on top of the refund and payment for the clothing. They probably didn't even have to give the clothing up and will end up using them.

I agree with you, it's mad what happening. Well reading I start even to have bad feelings fore this couple, after they started to complain about the frogs. They even have the guts to name all compensation given by Cunard. And on top of it they decided to get of the ship in Hawaii. Wait six weeks and sail back with QE2. I wonder if Cunard payed fore that as well.

The problem is actualy a common problem on board all ships. I wonder if there where complains earlyer by other passengers in the same suite.

Firstly, let's remember it is the daily mail, hardly a bastion for good journalism.

Having said that, could Cunard have done more, probably, could the couple have done more, well yes, if their trip was being destroyed they could of gotten off at the first port, i've done, im sure someone else on here has done it. At the point where they stayed on the ship to Hawaii they are done in my book.

"The metal floor underneath them began to flex loudly in high seas, creating an unbearable racket that kept them awake."

I did QV's maiden Jan Trans when she was only a few months old. The seas were pretty rough and even then I heard some passengers complaining about the very disturbing noise in their cabins. Although NOT unbearable in our cabin, she still creaked like an old wooden sailing ship.

So does Queen Victoria seriously have a noise problem and how bad is it?

If so then Cunard should think about ripping out the cabins and not selling them or repairing the problem. If there really is noise that keeps passengers awake in these cabins Cunard should rightfully offer a refund.

What these people got seems quite unreasonable and no one deserves that much for a ruined holiday.

That article is very unclear. What I would really like to know now is there a serious noise problem on Queen Victoria that is worst than other cruise ships. If anything the article and the fact Cunard offered compensation has seriously damaged Queen Victorias credibility and I would certainly never consider sailing on it if the cabins generate enough noise to keep you awake at night.

Oh come on, this is ridiculous.

It is unfortunate that their first cabin was too noisy and being moved around is frustrating but they lost all credibility with the cabin that "didn't feel right."

I think she may well have in some cabins. I certainly heard some passengers 'serious' complaints in Jan 2008 when she was not long out of the ship yard.

Well if Queen Victoria does have bad cabins and Cunard seems to have paid money to them and upgraded them it appears this will be a constant problem for Cunard.

They are going to just have to stop selling the cabins or give people free cruises who want to sail in them.

I think it is completely outrageous that this couple got compensated for evening dresses. They obviously have more money than intelligence. Buying expensive dresses and a really cheap cabin on Queen Victoria suggests some sort of brain deficiancy.

Something just doesnt seem right about all this.

It could be that clothing is important to someone and cabins aren't. Maybe clothing is so important to them, they spent so much money on it they only afford a "really cheap cabin."

I wouldn't spend money on really expensive clothing or really a really expensive suite even if I could afford it, but I could see why someone might on one but not the other. Different people have different priorities. Some people love to spend money on clothing, some on cars, some on travel, some people have loads of money and don't spend much on anything at all.

Now, I would agree that these people sound mad, but not for spending a lot of money on clothing and not much for a cabin, but rather for their utterly ridiculous reaction to their "ordeal."

Actually there is more to the story than what we have here.

Thier original suite was unacceptable and Cunard admitted so (they have since made repairs to stop it happening again), they were moved from a suite to an interior cabin but then had to maove again, clothes in one place, beds in a another for days ! They were then upgraded to a penthouse but only for a limited time as other pax were embarking and it was their suite (which is why they felt uncomfortable about it which is understandable), so they had to move again into the original suite which Cunard had already admitted was unacceptable, they then decided to disembark but had to wait until Hawaii.

Cunard have admitted fault all they are arguing about is the level of compensation.

Having read the whole thing I have to say if I had been treated in the same way I would be a very very unhappy cruiser.

Frankly if I had been the judge I would have given them more.

I don't want to encourage petty compensation claims anymore than anyone else however on occasion cruise lines do f##k up and this is one by Cunard, to make it worse they handled it badly afterwards as well. Well perhaps the bad press they are now getting over the incident will help them make improvements.

They would certainly deserve their refund if it was the case and apparantly a suite was the problem to begin with.

It seems ridiculous that they would get compensation for clothing. No one held a gun to their head and told them to buy all this expensive clothing for the cruise, they did that out of their own choice so should have to live with it.

As for compensation they certainly deserve it for the way they were treated by Cunard and moving between cabins but they certainly dont deserve compensation for items of vanity that they bought before the cruise.

Oh. Well, that changes the story quite a bit.

Typical for the Daily Mail....
