I thought it would be interesting to find out which group our memebers on here belong to. Are you a "ship-geek" or a "cruise-geek"? Are you interested in cruising and the cruise industry because you like to cruise? (cruise geek) or do you like cruising and the industry becasue you like ships (ship geek)?

Its interesting, the difference between the two groups.

For me personally I am a ship geek. I love cruising and the industry as a whole because I like ships so much. In fact loved ships before I was even really aware that there was a cruise industry.

What about everyone else?

SHIP GEEK HERE!!! I'm with you Cunard Fan, it is the ship and ships that hold my interest. In fact, you could put me on a merchant ship, naval ship or any other real ship and I would be in heaven. No yachts, no sailing vessels, no pocket cruise ships for me!!!
I do however care about what happens to me aboard, so I do know and am interested on each cruise line's onboard product-but more to prevent a poor choice than anything else.

I'm a cruise "ship" geek.... I've always been fascinated with passenger ships since I was a kid and have kept a photo collection of my own to record what I have seen in my life so far...Jeff

Ship Geek... actually there are many elements of modern day cruising that I don't like... ship photographers, jewelry sales, cheesy production shows, banquet hall food quality... but the ship itself and the magic of being at sea is what brings me back every time.

Raised on classic liners since the age of 9, cruise ships! no liners left. The Louis Fleet, Monarch, and the Classic International ships have been renovated so many times, they have the liabilities of an old liner and that of a modern cruise ship.

The passengers make a cruise. One could put the Cunard Winter Crossing Club on the Clipper Pacific, Perla, or any other ragtag 70's ship and would be a fun time.

This summer I had a wonderful time cruising on a 1902 tugboat called the Jupiter. It was converted from steam to diesel after WWII with a 1000hp navy surplus submarine engine.

I am both!

I love ships (especially old ones) including ferries, but I also love cruises & cruising & it is a great way to see the world (bits of it anyway).

Graham.

I started out as a ship geek....and I would say I'm more a ship geek than a cruise geek because there is just something about the thought of being on a ship at sea that turns my crank. I even enjoyed being on the ferries in Seattle. I love exploring ships, and feeling the ship react to the sea. I've always thought it would be amazing to be onboard an aircraft carrier at full speed. When I worked on the ships, I enjoyed all the activities with the passengers, but would often take the opportunity to go out on deck to watch the sea away from the passengers.

Prefer liners & cruise ships but, in a drought, even a BC ferry run, and a lookat the coal and container ships at Deltaport, will keep me going! Anything (almost) that gets me on the ocean...
