I was hoping to have competed my review of the January 23rd OASIS cruise a long time ago, but life keeps getting in the way! Work has been crazy and I'm wrapping up 11 years of life in Atlanta as I move to Miami next weekend.

I have finished uploading the pictures and labeling them, so here they are! I hope you enjoy. FYI there are 477 of them. She is a big ship! Attached below is a small sample.

Very nice job, I don't think I've seen such a comprehensive set of photos of this ship yet.

The "experience" is definitely not what I look for in a cruise, but in terms of design I am amazed every time I look at photos of this ship.

Looking at the photos I have really been struck by the "neighborhood" concept: do different groups of passengers gravitate towards different parts of the ship? This happens on all ships other than very small ones, but it seems that, as most things, it should be taken to its logical extreme on this one.

Thanks so much for these amazing photos, Ernie! I look forward to a full review as well.

You just made me look forward to my OASIS cruise (25/06/10) that much more!

Great pictures, looks like you had perfect weather! Smooth seas and everything. On our 1/2 sailing things were pretty rough, wet, windy, and cold, lol. Did you stay on board in ports to get these pictures? I took many of my pictures early in the morning and late at night and even then things were more crowded.

Ernie,

Thank you for the great photos.

Question: did you have any qualms with your balcony overlooking the sports and recreation areas?

I understand that Royal Caribbean only had so much space to work with, but it seems puzzling to me that many of the top suites on the ship (including THE top suite) would have so much exposure to a potentially noisy, crowded public venue.

Giving the corner view to the top suite I suppose only makes sense, but I still wonder how much (if at all) the deck life below encroaches on the occupants' privacy.

Good pixs. I heard that the lounge for Diamond and Diamond Plus members charges a fee for drinks for the Diamond members and the Diamond Plus members get theirs free.
Any confirmation on this??

Since we were in a suite we almost always used the Concierge Lounge which was beautiful, but one night we went to the Diamond gathering. It was actually in Blaze Nightclub because there were so many Diamond members onboard. I ordered a cocktail (Barcardi and Diet Coke) and my brother ordered a beer, then a glass of wine. We were not charged anything and we are not Diamond Plus members, just regular Diamond. Actually my brother is not even Diamond but they let him in anyway. There was also hot appetizers. Nice set up but I preferred the Concierge Lounge which had a fantastic, attentive staff and a gorgeous two story view over the Boardwalk.

Thanks Barry.

I use an Olympus Stylus Tough-8010. Great camera and water/shock proof as well.

You are in for a treat. OASIS is awesome!! There is nothing like her at sea. The best part is that crowds simply did not exist, at least on my cruise and we had 5900 passengers onboard. I only wish all ships felt as spacious as OASIS. I think the ship had almost too much public space.

One of my favorite areas is Central Park. Such a beautiful setting and just a treat to sit at the bar for a cocktail or have some wine at Vintages (sitting outside!). I loved it.

Wow. I thought she couldn't have been full - I was wondering where all the people were in these photos (obviously taken during the day)!

Ernie what great pics I looked through all 477 of them! People will say what they want and are entitled to their opinion but there is no denying that the Oasis is unbelievable ship that is stylish. Its glitzy but still has a stylish way about it that attracts a clientle looking for that with a bit of Vegas, a Caribbean resort and even a hint of theme park in it.

I for one am looking forward to one day sailing the Oasis or Allure. Possibly next year! Too many cruises so little time!

I love the pics of the Destiny and Oasis. The Destiny was the 1st passenger ship to exceed 100,000 tons and the Oasis was the 1st to exceed 200,000 tons. They both are milestones in the passenger/cruise ship world.

Thanks again.....good luck on your move!

Indeed but DESTINY was not special in any way other than size. She also is, in my opinion, not a well-designed ship (even by 1996 standards), and by the time she was completed, much larger ships were already under construction (in fact I think GRAND PRINCESS was ordered first).

OASIS is in a class of her own in a way that no cruise ship has been probably since NORWAY. More so I think than SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS or VOYAGER OF THE SEAS when they were new, even. And she and ALLURE will be unique at the very least for years, and maybe even (though not likely IMHO) forever.

Almost all the interior pics were taken around 11am in St. Maarten. Most of the passengers had disembarked.

Very well said and I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. OASIS really has something for everyone. The Boardwalk could be a scene at the Jersey Shore, and venues like the Champagne Bar and Dazzles could easily fit in at a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton. There are plenty of "in-between" venues as well.

Overall I found OASIS a class act. I think the design and decor has been upgraded even compared to the rest of the RCI fleet, which is saying a lot. The attention to detail is amazing and even a non-ship buff can easily appreciate the time and planning that went into OASIS. If there is a word that describes OASIS it's quality. The materials used, the layout, the entertainment, etc. It all reeks of quality. She is certainly worth the extra cost IMO.

I can't wait to sail on her again!

Well, it is quite easy to get photos of e.g. an empty dining room or theatre on any ship.

I was more referring to the number of photos that were obviously taken at sea, during the day (like deck scenes), where on most ships I think there would be conspicuously more people around.

Great photos Ernie. I agree about the upgrades on the Oasis over the other ships in the RCI fleet. Dazzles was just beautiful and Central Park was also one of my favorite places.

Can't wait for May to get here. You shuld book the Allure for January 16th to the western. This will be my first visit back to Labadee since the upgrades to the island.

By the way, good luck with the move next week. It was nice of Atlanta to give you a snowy send off yesterday.

Thanks Gordon. I finally had the chance to view your photos as well. Nice job! It was interesting to see the Aqua Theater Suite. I think you will like the Loft Suite better to be honest. It's great being up on Deck 17 (very private) and having two levels is really cool. I think the finish in the Loft Suites looks a little richer as well.

Yes, the weather in Atlanta is sending me off with a bang! It really is beautiful though and so unusual to see the city this way. I'm just glad I'm not moving this weekend.

So where are you off to next? I read you are hopping a plane this Thursday.

THanks Ernie. We loved the balcony of the Aqua Theater suite but the soot was a major issue. RCI has to get that corrected. The cabin itself was nothing special and actually did not fit the RCI "suite" mold. The Crown Loft looks much nicer.

That post was from just before I left last month for the Oasis. I haven't anything planned until May for the Oasis again. Work is keeping me busy so I guess that's a good thing.

Oh yes I was refering to size as I too believe the Destiny/Conquest/Dream class is a poor ship design. I cruised on the Carnival Dream in November and was reminded of how I do not like that ship design. Very cramped IMO

Bummer. I thought maybe you snuck another trip in. Well, May will be here before you know it. I've got the QM2 in April so I'm looking forward to that.
