IMO the dark glass panels and navy blue cheat lines on the villa complex do make it blend a bit more with the rest of the ship. The eye is less drawn to it than earlier photos where the windows were still masked in white.

Interesting pictures. As expected, it indeed looks better than during the construction phase.
Are these windows that can be opened by the passengers?

Ya know, I've been lurking here for a bit before I actually signed up. Is it really necessary for you to comment with the same "it's ugly" comment in every Epic thread regardless of what the thread is about?

I mean if someone like me (who doesn't frequent this board as much as many of you regulars) have noticed this, I'm sure others who post here often would be getting tired of it as well.
If you got something worthwhile to contribute to the thread, please do, but in every Epic thread here I've only seen one single post from you that isn't the same old usual slam against this ship.

I think everyone gets your dislike for it, give it a rest?

Epic is not the most beautiful ship, but to my eyes. no worse than many MSC, Aida, P&O or Princess ships.

RCI tends to sweat details on exterior design more, but I find Oasis ungainly, particularly from the stern view.

If the entire villa complex were reflective glass and navy blue paint, it wouldn't look bad at all. I think they should have taken the blue further.

The removal of the protective window tapes made a world of difference. The reflective glass is interesting too.

She's no Norway in terms of aesthetics, but tell that to the people staying in any one of those forward facing villas (especially the 4 corner suites). Can you imagine having a cabin where 2 of the 4 walls are all floor to ceiling windows?!
I can't think of any other ship having a cabin with a better view than those owner suites.

Not an attractive ship at all. It's that huge area over the bridge that makes it look bad. If that were diffferent, she would look more like MSC's Fantasia class.

Another new picture

HERE shows the blue stripe going only as far as the artist renditions showed.

I and a lot of other CTers who have seen nice looking and poorly designed ships all express their opinions. Seems like most agree that NCL anf it's designers missed something. But maybe they wanted a ship to be so different from the norm people would possibly might want to sail on her and see the rest of the ship's interior.
Only time will tell once she starts her voyages.
NCL needs something to get back on track after some of the issues that have been seen on this board.

Very true!

Personally I think the hull art is quite tame compared to the rest of the fleet.

As for reflective dark windows and blue lines, all I have to say is "a pig in lipstick"!

NCL is trying every paint/glass trick to minimize the bulk of the villa complex. To some extent it is working but the thing to remember is she was not designed to be an attractive vessel from the start. The longish forecastle and attractive forward superstructure-below the villa complex are her best exterior features IMO. She is a working cruise ship designed from the inside-out with little regard to exterior aesthetics just like most ships are today.

The days of large cruise ships being built with pleasing exterior aesthetics is mostly over. It is just not cost effective to build a truly beautiful large ship today. As an example, even the new Disney twins are not nearly as good-looking as their stunning Disney Wonder/Magic.

That's fine and dandy, but is it necessary to express the same short opinion over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again at every chance, by the same person?
