I am starting to think that she looks like any other new ship internally?

Well some look quite good - problem I have is theming. While a whole ship should have an interior design concept (that is carried throughout) I loath ships that look chopped up because they "theme" the decor, olde english pubs, chicago style cheers bars etc etc. Just yuk.

Princess are guilty too with their Vines bars and the ever dreadful and tacky Explorers lounges etc.

Celebrity have got it right - the exception being the Cellar Masters lounge which to me stands out by being so - well imho yuk and the 60s Quasers which would be better on a NCL ship. But as a whole the ship flows from location to location - all different but all continuing the overall feel and style.

So sorry I don't think Epic will win any prizes in this regard.

She looks surprisingly nice on the inside. The only complaint is that they have too much brown. Each of these room alone looks great but all together it seems like they need to add a lot of color to it. Is this final or could they still have some extra decor items to install that would add color?

Maybe!

NCL have spent couple of years telling us all how innovative she is. However apart from the wavy walls (designed to make small cabins look bigger?) and an Ice Bar she seems pretty 'normal' in terms of decor.

On a plus side they seemed to have dropped the loud 'Ronald McDonald' decor on board the 'jewel' class etc. and gone more for more tasteful decor. It certainly looks to be quite conservative when compared to the retro-trendy Solstice class, for example.

However one cannot really judge a ships interiors just from photographs. They are not always entirely Representative of the 'real thing'.

Well, many cruise lines exaggerate with their marketing and not only NCL uses the word 'innovative' in an inflationary way.

Of course it's meant to make the cabin look bigger - what else? This has been done eversince (using 'tricks' to make cabins look bigger). Also, don't forget that this is definitely a ship targeting at a more budget minded audience.

I've always understood that the "innovations" revolves around the entertainment and staterooms as opposed to the decor. As you and a few others had pointed out, the Epic is a very conventional ship design wise.

I actually much prefer the Jewel class ship's bolder colours and wood, the Epic has a ton of earth tones and darker veneer that takes away some of the "fun" look.

Yes, but I though that in this case they might go hand in hand.

It certainly looks more 'serious' and even 'upmarket', but as I've said it is early days yet - these images are not of great quality.

I got to see 'Celebrity Solstice' and I though the decor was both 'brave' yet generally 'tasteful', which sound like a contradiction.

By the way, I though much of 'Oasis' decor was just typical of RCI's brand and certainly not ground-breaking - they left that for the public spaces.

Largest LED Chandelier at sea installed in the Norwegian Epic Casino

MIAMI – June 4, 2010 – In another "first" for Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Epic, the largest LED chandelier at sea is now installed in the ship's Epic Casino, which is also the largest at sea. The chandelier, which will change colors to all in the spectrum - up to 255 possible variations - has a height of 21 feet, diameter of nearly 11 feet and weighs two metric tons. Built in Vienna, Austria by Kalmar, a leading glass crystal maker who has designed some of the largest chandeliers for hotels and palaces around the world, and designed by UK-based SMC Architects and Lighting Design, it is fitted with approximately 40,000 crystal glass pieces of various shapes and sizes - and spans vertically to three decks, with vantage points from the casino, Teppanyanki restaurant, Wasabi Sushi Bar, Malting's Whiskey Bar, Shaker's Martini Bar, and the Atrium. The design is of spiraling oval discs, each up to 30 feet in circumference, and 112 suspended crystal encrusted balls of up to one foot in diameter, which orbit the main structure at varying heights.

The chandelier is the most energy efficient at sea. It is completely illuminated by LED technology, using over 10,000 diodes. It is fully dimmable to most effectively enhance the lead crystals and is currently being programmed by UK-based Project International. The impressive structure, which will be the focal point of the ship's Atrium, took a team of people three weeks to install it.

The stateroom decor I do find very interesting and would looks great with more colour, the lighting setup is outstanding though. In terms of the staterooms I think both decor and design is innovative.

Public rooms you're right, it's more serious and it does look like they're going for a more upscale look. Doesn't really look like a NCL ship now.

The Solstice class ships are very contemporary, I think that's a very good word to describe them. Those ships look very elegant, Celebrity did a great job with them.

Anyway here's another picture of the chandelier.

I applaud NCL for creating an atrium space where every surface isn't lined in brass or neon. Epic's white walls and recessed lighting are a nice change from the brass and glass atria I've grown tired of.
