More speculation! AIS is currently showing NORWEGIAN DREAM as bound for Kusadasi after yo-yo'ing back and forth between Syros and Piraeus Roads for months. Any thoughts as to what is going on?

Turkey does have some ship breaking yards !

Her speed on the AIS maps is shown as about 3.9 knots with an arrival on the 14th July so she is certainly crawling along.

I wonder what crew are still on board after so long in the Medi.

With that speed, I wonder if she is under tow.

No she is not under tow. Appears to be meandering looking at the AIS track with an average of 5.6kts and right now still. But with an ETA of 14 July she doesn't have to go anywhere just yet.

There are shipyard facilities there I think.

Maybe some sucker ..... eh I mean buyer .... is having another kick at the tires so to speak. I seem to recall she went over there last summer when one of the potential buyers was looking at her. She is the old maid of the cruise industry having been passed around the ball but left istting on the bench. Last summer several firms looked at her and said no way based on the high price tag Star put on her and her poor mechanical conditions and poor construction.

The ship is on the move again so perhaps the crew have been fishing tonight to break up the boredom of the slow journey to Kusadasi !

It does seem strange that her twin sister was transfered (or sold) to parent Star Cruises but they decided not to do the same for the N. Dream. Did NCL/Star put her up for sale because they just no longer needed her or was she really in bad shape, ie poor construction, bad engines, ect? And how many millions were spent not too many years ago to stretch and modernize these twins? If it is true and the ship is in a run-down condition, could it be that she become that way mainly due to the extended lay-up? If truth be told neither one of these ships should have been built when they were. Maybe they would have worked in the early-mid 80's....but by the 90's they were already too small for the market and the stretching did little to correct this. Someone should really write a book about NCL and perhaps explain (if there even is a way) why so many strange business decisions have been made at NCL over the last 30-40 years.

The ship has not been owned by NCL for a long time. Even during her last few years of NCL service she was already owned by Star (now Genting Hong Kong) and being chartered back to NCL. So were SEA, WIND, MAJESTY, CROWN and MARCO POLO. In theory all these ships were supposed to be used by Star for "fleet renewal," but I doubt it was ever intended to keep all of them.

When the ownership of all these ships went from NCL to Star it had no material effect since Star owned all of NCL, but this was all in preparation for Star to sell NCL or part of it (as it did) and not include these ships in the sale.

In the case of SEA and WIND Star opted to actually use the ships. MAJESTY, CROWN and MARCO POLO were sold off ... as DREAM was supposed to be, but obviously there were some "issues" with that.

In addition, thanks to the agreement between Star and Apollo about NCL America, NORWEGIAN SKY is owned by Genting Hong Kong (and is for sale) but rather than lay her up like DREAM, she is chartered to NCL until Star can find a buyer. Of course she is much more "compatible" with the rest of the NCL fleet.

And how about NORWEGIAN SPIRIT? Is she still owned by Star?

You neglect Star/Genting's own financial troubles. The firm has not done that well financially and had some real challenges to deal with. Plus they have not had the most stellar record on the deployment of ships in Asia.

Hence they put the ships up for sale with few takers .... looks of lookers but in the case of the last two no takers

Indeed! NCL has had so many different (and flawed) strategies over the decades. They always seems one step away from liquidation, so they make rash decisions to keep the brand afloat. For example, building Dream and Wind in a desperate attempt to keep up with newbuilds from CCL, RCI, Princess, etc. As noted, the ships were poorly designed and built.

And then NCL America...an absolutely idiotic move to try to corner the Hawaiian market.

And now Epic...and over-priced, over-crowded design that will be a very rare thing in this industry...a single-ship design.

I sense that NCL's very early success in the 1970s and early 80s gave them a false sense of security while CCL and RCI raced past them. They've simply never caught up.

Yawn! NORWEGIAN DREAM spent a day in Kusadasi and then drifted slowly back to Syros where she arrived this morning. Watching paint dry is more interesting than keeping up with her movements!

Good decision on Star's part. Putting her back in service and making a few bucks off her while waiting for a buyer is better than letting her sit. Given the bad conditions of her engines (as speculated), she should be fine doing 1 and 2 nights cruises to nowhere.
