I'm sailing on EPIC on 11/6, but I decided to check her out a little early. I only live 20 minutes from the Port of Miami and I wanted to see her next to another ship. Even before I saw EPIC in person, I did not think she would look enormous, at least not like OASIS. Sure she is big, but other large ships hold their own next to her. Today CARNIVAL LIBERTY was also in port, and EPIC did not look that much larger. Sure you could tell EPIC was the bigger ship, but it wasn't like "OMG that thing is huge"! LOL

EPIC is not going to win any beauty prizes, but I don't think she is ugly. She is actually quite interesting looking and has many quirks to her design. It was fun to examine her up close.

Attached are some preview photos and the rest can be found at this link.

Thanks for posting Ernie! She towers above her pier....way more so than SS Norway did...I always thought Norway was huge, but this thing really put's Norway to shame when it comes to mass. (not beauty though)

Give me NORWAY any day! Seeing those fabulous funnels tower over the Port of Miami is a sight I will never forget. It's a childhood memory I will always remember and cherish, and it was especially pronounced as I had been anticipating it for over a year. I must have looked at the brochures and deck plans every day for over a year!

Personally EPIC did not "wow" me by her size. Not like OASIS, and especially QM2. Going purely by physical appearance, QM2 still appears the largest to me.

Working now THANKS! I am glad you liked her. I bet you cant wait until November! It would be interesting to catch her in pictures in a closer persepctive to another ship, say when one passes her heading down the ship channel or in Nassau, similar to the webcam grab I got of OASIS next to the Costa Atlantica in STT.

That would be interesting, but I don't think it would be as dramatic. Part of what makes OASIS so impressive is her width. She is just soooo wide. EPIC on the other hand seems really skinny. Perhaps it's because she is so tall that she seems more narrow to me?

At one point I actually considered canceling my EPIC cruise and switching over to OASIS. I wasn't liking what I was seeing with EPIC and we are spending a good bit of dough to sail on her. My partner doesn't sail that often with me and I really want him to be impressed and to enjoy himself. I think he would enjoy OASIS (it's a very high quality ship), but I'm not so sure about EPIC. Guess what, OASIS is already sold out except for the highest priced suites for the November sailing I'm booked on. Meanwhile EPIC has space galore, even for today's sailing.

Anyway I am over that hesitation now and I am looking forward to sailing on EPIC. Perhaps not as much as I was with OASIS, but I'm certain we will have a great experience. I have to wonder though if EPIC will be one of those ships where "once is enough"? Time will tell I guess.

Your right Ernie, the QM2 looks bigger to me too. Perhaps it is because the hull of QM2 seems so much taller than the Epic and Oasis where they seem to be more superstructure than anything. Your picture of Epic with Carnival Liberty gave me a pretty strange thought.....I honestly think the Carnival Liberty has Never, Ever looked as sleek and beautiful as it did today sitting behind the Epic.

I was across from Dodge Island on Saturday morning, and got these photos of NORWEGIAN EPIC and CARNIVAL LIBERTY:

It's true, LIBERTY did look rather sleek compared to EPIC!

The decks above the bridge on the Epic remind me of the extra decks added to the ss Norway.

They should have sloped them backwards in line with the rest of the front of the ship instead of appearing to overhang the bridge..

QM2 looks bigger because of her design....she's a liner and just looks BIGGER THAN LIFE, whereas Epic just looks like a big cruise ship.

I know it's been mentioned many times but she would have looked so much better with a sloped line above the bridge. The Carnival Liberty is another example as you can clearly see a substantial amount of decks above the bridge yet they blend right in.

Thanks for sharing.

Epic really doesn't do anything for me at all. Most ships, even the more 'boxy' ones tend to have a few aspects that are pleasing, even if in isolation. I can't really find any with Epic?

Not sure if this has been done already... but check her out without the tower-block atop the bridge... what a difference it makes.

With all due respect the 'shoulda woulda coulda' designs and suggestions by CT'ers have been done to death.

Doing away completely with the 'Top Hat' of EPIC eliminates 60 villas and suites, 2 private venues (one restaurant and one lounge) for those suite guests, 2 restaurants (the main buffet and one surcharge) and the entire concept of the 'courtyard'.

We can't change what is. We can fantasize and redraw, but at some point we either have to accept her as is or move on. EPIC is here to stay, Top Hat and all.
