Fans of ATLANTIC STAR (ex FAIRSKY etc) will be pleased to hear that Pullmantur are re-activating her, albeit temporarily, from a long lay-up in Marseille, on their 7-day "Jewels of the Atlantic" itinerary (embarking in either Lisbon or Malaga) between 28 August and 9 October, replacing PACIFIC DREAM.

Ports of call include Gibraltar, Casablanca, Agadir and Lanzarote with one day at sea.

Reasons for this unknown.

May be the Dream is having a mechanical nightmare????
Well it could some unscheduled maintenance?
Poor "Sky Princess"(was serving onboard when she was 13 yo), she is now like Louis's Emerald, a rare spare steam-jewel.
Anyone for steam joy and can go at such short notice go for it!

Understand from a friend in Spain that the Dream had an engine failure at Lisbon on the 15th August 2010.

I just went to the Pullmantur site (which is awful), and they didn't have the Pacific Dream listed. Instead, they had the Horizon on there. Does this mean, that Pacific Dream has been renamed Horizon?

For some reason, this company will always seem fly by night, even if they are owned by Royal Caribbean.

Also, the restart of the Atlantic Star is going to be a disaster. To bring a ship back into operation in two weeks, after sitting out of service for 18 months in Marseille. She is going to be a mess! And she was a mess to begin with

Many cruise ships are laid up in Greece for over three months in the winter so it is possible that she has been maintained in operational condition with the air conditioning on etc.

According to Pullmantur's German GSA, "Pacific Dream" suffered a major engine breakdown off Lisbon August 13th, and will be out of service until spring, 2011 for that reason. She is to rejoin the fleet under her original name, "Horizon".

Best,

Raoul

Hi there,

PACIFIC DREAM will be renamed back HORIZON as from next year.
The reason for the ship's exchange is indeed the huge engine failure. The PACIFIC DREAM needs to go to a yard and won't be ready until the end of the season.

Well so long as they are not expecting AS to be reliable, not hit a dock, other ship or submerged object then she will do fine.

Hi Mike

Looks like you forgot she sprung a leak after sailing from Auckland on one of her Australian cruises in 2003.

She was going to Nuku'alofa but returned to Auckland for hull repairs that took about 17 days.
