Has anyone heard what is happening with the Alexander von Humbolt in 2011.

She has been laid up at Genoa for some time and with Phoenix Reisen buying the Artemis from P & O Cruises she is not in the Phoenix brochure for 2011

She is also not listed on any of the websites of her UK owners The All Leisure Group.

Laid up or having the planned work of additional cabins and balconies added? The problems in Egypt may have put things back a bit perhaps for the group.

I read sometime ago she would be joining one of their 3 lines but no decision had been made as to which one and I have not seen anything further mentioned.

Hi Pam

Thanks for the update.

With Swan Hellenic chartering the Minerva I would think she could replace her when the charter is up which would then mean all the groups ships in operation are owned by them.

Here's an image of her having balconies installed in the deluxe cabins last month:

Word is that she will be renamed Discovery II and replace Discovery for the summer.

When did this ship have her bow rebuilt and why?

I don't know exactly when the bow was rebuilt, I'd say it has happened in the last few years though (definitely after returning to Europe from Hong Kong). The reason was that the old, flared, bow was damaged easily in storms. I think she sailed around for years with a dent in her bow!

Both the bow of the ship and the bulbous bow were rebuilt after All Leisure Group bought the ship at the Admiralty auction.

I understand the ship might be scheduled to operate under charter on the Russian market this upcoming summer. I have not received an official confirmation for that, however.

Best,

Raoul

I thought so, I cruised that ship in 1993; 7 days out of WPB to Western Caribbean. Excellent ship.

I worked aboard CROWN MONARCH from her delivery in November 1990 until March 1992 (two contracts) and I loved that ship. Very small and cozy, with a family-like feeling--most of us had transferred over from CROWN DEL MAR when that ship ended service in Nov. '90.

Not always happy with the various modifications over the years since, but it's nice to see the vessel still in service.

i'm expecting that the blank area on her stern is the galley?...if not...that would have been a great area for balconies if not some windows for a lounge or spa...jeff

Alexander von Humboldt is going to be chartered for Turkish tour operator Bamtur during the summer season. She will operate cruises out of Turkey from the 28th of May until 2th of October. The one week cruises will depart from Istanbul and will call at Lesvos, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodos, Crete and Lavrion.

Last year Bamtur chartered the Turkish ship Ankara and operated cruises almost with the same itinerary from Turkish port Cesme. This year you can say that they got much better ship for their one week cruises. Good for Bamtur, but apparently bad for the All Leisure Group. All Leisure would certainly been happier with a longer charter agreement.
