She seems to have engine trouble since yesterday. No electricity and the toilets are not working. The ship seems to smell terrible

I understand she is now being towed to Nynäshamn by the tugboat "Svitzer Trym".

Italian media reports the ship suffedered a failure to an electric panel, causing an initial low power and afterwards a total loss while the ship was near Wisby in Baltic Sea. On board passengers suffer many inconvenience, especially in toilette. MSC offered a refund of 30% for a new cruise within 2012, but a passenger on board report that all cruisers will ask for a total refund. According to Swiss media, the ship spent much of Sunday adrift in the Baltic sea after an electrical failure. "It appears that there was a complete electrical failure. In that situation, the engines do not work," Birger Knutsson of the rescue centre told AFP. The cruise line said the ship would be towed to the port of Nynashamn near Stockholm overnight, where it would organise the repatriation of its 1,800 passengers. Travellers would be offered another cruise, valid until December 2012. The ship left Southampton on May 7 for a 10-night trip taking in Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg and Copenhagen, and was due to return to Southampton on Tuesday. It began drifting at about 11:00 am (0900 GMT) and by 1730 GMT was approximately 10 kilometres (six miles) from Visby, Gotland's main town.

A 30% refund?? 100% is more than fair considering what happened.

Any refunds should be as a full cash payment and not as a credit note to be used for another cruise.

After this experience it is possible that some passengers will not want to cruise again with MSC Cruises.

It will be interesting to see what happens to any passengers that will not fly back to their home port !

Having had a week of a 10 nighter I don't see why they should have a full refund anyway but that's mho. Those who don't want to fly can have various options to return by train/ferry.

Pam M

With the passengers having had about two days of no hot food and just being offered sandwiches, no water for washing or showering, no toilet flushes working, so they smelt like a sewage works, and little in the way of lighting and ventilation, plus the bars not in operation, I think they should get cash refunds and not credit notes !

With no hot water it would be interesting to know how hygiene standards were maintained in the ships kitchen when the sandwiches were prepared.

There is no doubt a number of her passengers who will never cruise with this company again.

Reports say most of the services were restored yesterday and they had hot breakfast this morning. I've had worse and got less which I was quite happy with. It's my opinion there is too much over compensation handed out these days, others are free to disagree but it won't change my opinion

It doesn't matter how much compensation you give some passengers, they will still not sail with any company they have had a problem occur with, however minor or major.

According to AIS she is now underway to Oskarshamn, Sweden currently making 8.5 knots.

Earlier this afternoon she had a tug with her and her destination was showing on AIS as Gdynai, Poland which appears to have a comprehensive shipyard with repair facilities.

Does anyone know why the ship has changed her destination?

We're on the 27 May cruise to Norway, hence the interest! I called MSC earlier and they assured us that the repair was only a 2-3 day job, the rest of the time to be used for tests and they had no doubt the ship would be back in service on time.

Nice to see that the seas were calm. That was not the case when we were on QE2 and she went dead off Bermuda. Our rescue ship, Sea Venture, was bobbing like a cork as were the lifeboats as we transferred.

Hell has frozen over...I actually agree with Neil !

Carnival set the standard for compensation when it comes to this type of incident.
