On beginning of 1990s the SAL (Swedish America Line) & Radisson Cruises had idea to built at Ferrari shipyard in La Spezia two luxury cruise ships for 232pax with length 150,0m and 9,000gt.
I will be appreciated for any image of the ship and info on what stage (blue print or construction level) the project has been canceled.

Unfortunately I know nothing of this project. Perhaps other will know something. Technically, SAL = Swedish American Line, not Swedish America Line. Only NAL and HAL were America....as in Norwegian America Line, and Holland America Line. For a time it was NAC which was Norwegian American Cruises. I know it's a bit confusing, but there it is.

There were many plans to begin cruise lines in the 1980s and 1990s--I've got clippings and articles from at least a dozen proposed new companies, with new names, names for ships which were never built, etc.

I have read that the proposed SAL project eventually evolved into Silver Sea Cruises; this may be incorrect information but it's the popular conception.

Thanks for sharing the link to the article and the rendering. Obviously it was a completely different project from Silver Sea!

Ah yes, that's the rendering I was looking for. I actually have a hardcopy of that specific magazine. Thought I had the rendering as a JPEG as well, but apparently not. Thanks for looking it up!

Thanks for the link. Cool to read something from 93/94 and see how the industry has changed.

This wig advertisement seems to be a bit out of place though :-))

Interesting topic. This have been discussed before in the ocean liners forum.
Does anyone know if this company ever tried to by the SAL brand from the owners? Dont know who owned SAL then but now it is some of the schenker companies that own the company "Svenska Amerikalinien AB". I guess the 3 crown logo etc could not have been used on the Radisson Kungsholm and Gripsholm then?

Maybe they only wanted ships namned Kungsholm and Gripsholm with no other intention to continue the legacy of the old SAL?web page
