“Since Norwegian Breakaway will be making her home in New York, we felt it was fitting to ask the artist best associated with New York, Mr. Peter Max, to paint the ship’s hull,” said Kevin Sheehan. “I am a huge fan of his work and know that the art he creates for Norwegian Breakaway will make the ship instantly recognisable.”
With paintings on display in hundreds of museums and galleries worldwide, Peter Max and his vibrant colours have become part of the fabric of contemporary culture. Max has been successively called a Pop Icon, Neo Fauvist, Abstract Expressionist and the United States’ "Painter Laureate." He has achieved his place in history having painted for various Heads of State, including six U.S. Presidents.
“I love painting large canvasses. I’ve painted a plane and a stage for Woodstock, but never a ship. I love ships and have travelled on them many times in my life. To see my artwork floating on Norwegian Breakaway out at sea will be a dream come true,” said Peter Max.

With regard to the artist's work, I'll confess to a bit of transatlantic confusion: what does "Cosmic Brownies" mean? (That's a description of his art style that I've read, here.) In the UK a Brownie is a junior girl guide, and I'm pretty sure that's got nothing to do with Peter Max's art.
Mystery solved: I used Google Images and typed in 'Cosmic Brownie':

It suprised me that most of the colours on NCL's hull art was actually on warships in WWII.
Examples are light blues, dark blues, white, black, pink (yes pink to resemble dusk or dawn), green.
Back in the days when visual methods of range course and speed collection was done, a ships camouflage was very effective of masking a ships true angle, heading direction, size and profile on the horizon. It was so effective that it delayed identification times, kept submarine periscopes above the surface longer trying to get a solution.
Apparantly the Royal Navy had a turquise blue colour paint similar to the blue on Royal Caribbeans new ships. Not only that white was a common colour for camouflage. Even the blue on Celebrity ships was used as a camouflage.
Frosty 4
Greetings Ben.
