Dear Friends

Just received a link to this blog, where it says that QE2 will return back to service, as Phoenix Reisen Germany's flagship.

Please see the image below:

]

Another rumor says that her new name could be "IMPERATOR".

And finally, the source:

http://maritimepictures.blogspot.pt/2012/04/queen-e lizabeth-has-been-sold.html#!/2012/04/queen-elizabeth-has-been-sold.html

Can somebody add some valuable information to this rumor?

Well, I would love to see the return of my " special one"...yes I do!

Nautical Greetings

Ship's Agent / Dimas

I belive that the terms of the Cunard sale is that the ship can never be returned back to service, even if possible.

Even if there was truth to this far-fetched April Fool's joke, IMPERATOR would not be a contender for a name.

I will say that she looks pretty good in the all white hull.

What is her status now?

She is a complete waste of money if she is still sitting in Dubai idle.

Hi friends

absolutely correct, april fool's day, I noticed that dahhhh... but...

...since the day that this " joke" appeared, there has been some mistery concerning her use by Universe Event Management of Macau:

http://maritimematters.com/2012/03/qe2-to-macau/

In view of the above, why not bring her back to service?

Of course, her engines, her condition must be subject to a super-major refit...fully solas, etc, etc.

...but Phoenix already operated similar vessels like this, under V ships banner, such as the old Albatros, as an example.

I wonder if this Cunard condition, is applicable only to Dubai owners?

Finally another rumor says that Chinese interests are seeking on the market a " legendary" liner to replace the former ORIANA that capsized during a storm...

Let's see what happens!

Cheers & Brgds

Dimas

Hi Dimas,
I think that the Chinese owners who once held the SS Oriana would be better serve with obtaining the SS Oceanic instead. The people who owns the QE2 are not allow to resale her to anyone else at this time. The Oceanic would be the perfect vessel for them. If you have their contact information, I would suggest that you alert them to the notion that the ship was recently sold for scrap and will be arriving at Zhoushan, China. Perhaps the ship breakers who owns the ship might be willing to resell her to them as the ship is in good condition.

Here is the link to the SS Oceanic:

I know it is a joke, but it is not even in keeping with Phoenix's stated strategy. I was on the Artania recently and they are proud to say they are using smaller ships that can go where the big ones do not go. They are going to keep at that strategy.

I don't know how long Cunard's prohibition lasted about the QE2 not cruising again (5 years?) but even still there are also issues of condition and lack of modern amenities. Without the QE2 cache she would have a hard time marketing against the big guys and might just end up being another Seawise University.

QE2 maybe old, but she has 1987 Diesel's in her, which means she has a younger heart then the Pheonix Artania.

I wish this was a true rumor.

Very true but it has to do with maintenance as much as anything. While the power plant itself was modernized the hull is still 1960s as is much of the wiring, piping, etc. in the systems. While Cunard -- Carnival -- did a lot of update and maintain her in later years the heart is still mid-1960s.

Like you I would enjoy another trip aboard but I am afraid the ghosts of the Cunard operations would be overshadowed and you would walk away with a sour taste if the operator could not maintain the spirit and style.

I am afraid the Queen is dead .... long life her memories.

For any open water service the QE2 would require a massive amount of work to bring her up to SOLAS 2010 standards due to the amount of wood aboard. There are also structural questions linked with the integrity of her aluminium superstructure which, like the first Oriana, is an integral part of the strength of the ship. Whatever happens to her I doubt it will involve her sailing with passengers again. Would be nice to see her find a viable and respectable static role. It does appear she is still being very well looked after in Dubai.

QE2 was dated the day she was launched with the antiquated 3 class system [that became 2 with all of the flow problems] and steam turbines that never worked right. The Mike and Ralph were much nicer designs. Had QE2 been named SS Liverpool, she would have been long gone with the same obscurity of the SS Windsor Castle.

A pity the two Italian superliners didn't find a cruising buyer when Italia gave up on them. Issues included the lack of portholes on the lower decks and the 3 class accomodation, the lowest class simply not being suitable for cruise work and thus needing rebuilding. They did have much nicer open decks than the QE2 with three gorgeous lidos. I'm sure if they had gone on they would have received deisels at some point. I never really warmed to their lattice funnels.

Greetings Friends

Donald, thanks for your " Oceanic" tip!

I spoke already with my friends on this Oceanic subject before...let's see what happens.

Other classic liners still afloat nowadays ( certainlly nowadays in a smaller number - sadly), and in a very near future they will be also available for further use, possibly to replace " Oriana" as already mentioned.

Concerning QE2, and Universal Event Management, if they they plan to use her as a floating hotel and casino in Macau, according to the local protection gambling rules, a ship must leave port to open casino...

In view of the above, I wonder, would QE2 be
" daily" pulled off port, with tugs assistance?

Thanks all for all your comments,

Ship's Agent / Dimas

Hi Dimas,
Has your business partners been able to establish contact with the ship breaker(in Zhoushan, China) who owns the SS Oceanic regarding a possible resale of the ship?
