I'm pretty surprised at the era specific bow.

Wonder how much they are exaggerating the demand. The original Titanic carried 2,435 passengers. If they remove third class and can carry just 1,000 passengers this could be profitable in no time. Based on there demand and at a cost of $200 million to build with 1,000 passengers, it is just $200,000 per passenger to pay the ship off. With some willing to pay over $1million they could possibly pay this off in just a couple of voyages and then turn it into a museum.

Palmer claims that Titanic II will carry 2,400 passengers. I believe the cost is estimated at $400 $600 million.

I blogged about the passenger-space-ratio and stuff here:

I never really understood why they insist on referring to White Star service at Cunard. Not Titanic but close.

The QM2 was inspired by Cameron's Titanic movie according to Micky Ariston.

Because they were trying to capitalize on the popularity of the movie. They started using the name in their materials right after the movie was such a hit.

Got to give him credit though, the renderings actually look remarkably similar to the original!

It'd be interesting to see how it turns out. And if several years down the road and the whole business side of it doesn't work out, perhaps a line like AIDA or NCL can purchase her and paint some art on her hull.
Can you imagine the signature AIDA eyes and lips on a ship that looks like the Titanic?!?

That 8-minute video detailing each deck was pretty amazing. THANKS for the link.

- I imagine they'll have smoking in all of the Smoking Rooms? Not just on one side of the ship? That's a lot of public space wasted.

- No pools topside? Keeping with the original, of course. I guess you could just sit out on deck and read (for six days), but who does that anymore?

- There's a theater and a casino. In one video he said 'no TV's and no internet', but he then says 'all the modern amenities'. Wonder if he just means hot and cold water and a ladder to get to that top bunk bed in the 2nd Class cabins.

- They'll need more elevators. Those are TINY!

- The Observation Windows in the forward stacks are weird, and mess up the general similar appearance of the four stacks.

- He mentioned something about being to switch between different classes of accommodations during the cruise. Wonder how that's going to work?

- Dress code on this should be a hoot. Long tail tuxedos and ball gowns in 1st, khaki work clothes and flannel for 3rd. What do 2nd Class folks wear?

- This ship comes out the same time as Oasis-3, and for the same ticket cost I'll pick the one that has ALL of the creature comforts I need instead of the one that comes with period costumes for rent?

- I can see doing this for a day or two, but for six days crossing the Atlantic. I'd be bored to death. And having access to only 1/3 of the ship, if he sticks to a Class-system, isn't all that appealing.

- There's no wrap around promenade deck. No one who cruises Princess will be caught dead on this ship.

...there are a lot of loose ends to clarify and tie-up!

For example they say 56,000 gt approx and 2,435 passengers. That's a worse passenger-space ratio than most mass-market ships.

I think that he needs to fit a pool on the fan tail to please modern man!

It's still not clear how the three classes will work and dine?

Will there be a fake/replica bridge?

Not gonna happen. I'd rather see an interpretation of a modern Titanic which we already have in the form of QM2. We are in 2013 not 1912; I just don't see how this project can be viable.

What i can't figure out is how all those passengers fit. He says that they are doing first and second classes accurately but third will be replaced by the current standard of cabin. If that is done there is no way they can hold the same number of passengers. The foot print of a modern cabin would probably take the space of two of the old third class cabins. That means that in the space that 8 people has been staying they will only have 2-4. The larger GT seems to be mostly related to the extra deck and slight widening of the ship, not enough to counter the larger cabins in order to have the same capacity.

I also was fascinated that in one of the links it was talked about that the 3rd class will have, just like the original Titanic, shared bathrooms.

Most of us look back at the good old days of cruising but I don't any of us is looking back to the beginning of the 20th century and sharing bathrooms with who knows who.

Yes Palmer says this, but his first set of plans (on-line somewhere) say ""The lower deck cabins are said to be "typical for a modern cruise vessel" while cabins and public rooms from D deck upwards are "as in the original ship".

So maybe the steerage is not so steerage after all! Who would buy them, anyway?

Buy all means give them an 'old' look but a private toilet is essential!

I found these deck plans from last summer which seemed to indicate that the question of private facilites for third class was still an open question. I suspect that they will be included - maybe behind a hidden door to perserve the experience.

Thanks Joe, I should have know that you are an expert on toilet facilities. So where's the balcony cabins?

The renderings are coming thick and fast: Public Rooms

Oh, here's that rather poor space ratio:

Quantum class:
Double: 4,100 (40.61)
GT: 166,500

Oasis class:
Double: 5,400 (41.72)
GT: 225,282

Titanic II
Double: 2,435 (22.99)
GT: 56,000 (estimated)

Well, if I had the money; I'd sail the new TITANIC II, no matter what. We can say we finally have something out there that looks like a ship. So, the question I have for all of you; would you sail the TITANIC II?

Yes! I'm a Royal Caribbean fan but I have always wanted to sail the Queen Mary 2 on a transatlantic just for the liner experience. This would be even better than that, so I could see it taking some of those "one time experience" cruisers away from Cunard.

I doubt I would. For sure not in 3rd class. I don't see the attraction having school cafeteria style meals, sharing a bathroom with others etc.
Plus the ship is too small for today's age and society to have a 3 class system. 7 days at sea and you are reduced to a very small area on that ship? No way.

If I ever HAVE TO travel on that ship I probably book 1st class but that won't be happening.

We are talking about a ship class that is smaller than the Majesty of the Seas in a 3 class configuration.

Besides historical value there is no value for me to go on this ship. But the historical value goes out of the window with the fact that it will be sailing a few more years. This is, in my opinion, exploitation of a terrible tragedy. No doubt he will find enough suckers for that ship.
For that guy to say that he will be mostly in 3rd class to eat irish stew and dance irish dances: RIGHT! I doubt he will book a bunk bed style cabin, eat in the school cafeteria style dining room and share a bathroom with 100s of fellow passengers.
So he will go down to steerage right before he goes to sleep in his first class cabin. LOL. But a nice sales job nevertheless.

I'm not sure why everybody expect the ship (if ever built) to be expensive to cruise on?

After the maiden voyage, which probably will attract some Titanic nuts with $1 million dollars to spare, Palmer will have 2,435 berths to fill. Possibly some of them will be small and basic?

There will be so many more comfortable ships to choose from out there!

The only issue is that you may have to share the ship with half of China and get used to noodles and rice with every meal.
