I can't be the only one who's sick and tired of the word "innovative" for the cruise industry, right?

It's so overused now that it's absolutely meaningless and is simply a buzz word required for any new launches. Can Quantum really be "Royal Caribbean's most innovative ship" after launching the Oasis class?

The one shot in their video looks like a piano bar on the ground floor of an atrium which likely confirms the lack of a promenade. Wonder if this is actually an event. It originally sounded like an event in NYC when it was leaking a few weeks back but that video makes it sound more like they will be posting a video to Youtube on Tuesday..

Unlikely!

I believe that Quantum will be a larger 'Radiance' type design for not-so-Caribbean climates. In fact I believe it has been called 'Radiance+' behind closed doors!

The Project 'sunshine' label may refer to a lot of glass like the 'Radiance' design?

Cruise lines want to have One upmanship on other lines with new things that keep us Cruisers cruising.
I.m to old to ice skate, climb rock walls ,surf ride and maybe zip line. But seeing this stuff is still cool.

Has anyone else heard that Quantum Of The Seas will open for booking Thesday? It seems like they would normally open for booking in September with since she'll set sail in November. They also usually announce a home port or itinerary first. A travel agency ran an ad in my local paper today for Quantum Of The Seas using the same catch phrases as this weeks as. What's weird is they are talking about OBC that is only good if booked by May 5th, 2013. I read the fine print and it specifies that date and that it must be Quamtum Of The Seas.

Oh boy...

quote:
Be the first to take the "Quantum Leap" in cruising!

And the definition of "quantum" is:

quote:
the minimum amount of any physical entity involved in an interaction

Oops.

That's exactly it, to say it's RCCL's most innovative ship is pretty outrageous.
Having said that though, I think I'll like the QotS far more than Oasis/Allure. The Oasis twins just never did anything for me and I've always liked the Radiance class.

Only in technical scientific language.

Colloquial language is often different, and that's what's being used here, entirely aptly.

It could be the scientific definition. The minimum amount of ship required to pack an Oasis level of features into a ship, lol.

Well the video is released on the Quantum, and my first thought was not quite wow but OMG. After watching it over and over again, there are a few wows.
Looks better than what we have seen so far.

Link to video:

Introducing Quantum of the Seas

After watching the 'prepare to be wowed' video you will see an image of the ship that will be the video to watch.

Thanks for posting that link. It looks like it's already taken down but atleast we can see the picture with an interesting looking flowrider structure. Can you share any details.

Edit: Here is a site that took some pics: http://www.rcifans.com/apps/blog/show/25711584-quantum-of-the-seas-finally-revealed-
Really not what I thought she would be. Sounds like Bingee and Bumper Cars are in. The structure in the back:

looks like the Bungee dropping into a chasm in the ship. No idea what that arm thing is but it looks like a new take on the Aerostat concept.

WOW, they have removed the video. Someone at Royal Caribbean jumped the gun. It was posted on other sights too.

I took screen shots and saved them but cannot work out how to post them with out having a url ?? Can someone help?

Some observations:

Eight decks of balconies
Large rounded solarium on top of bridge with lots of glass as seen in models etc
Glass observation area on top of that -will probably have viking crown lounge
Behind that solarium area just like solstice class but from the video this may hold the dodgem car arena! May be shared area where floor will cover pool.
On top of this is a huge pod that lifts passengers at least 100 feet above the ship and swings out over both sides of the ship.
Pool deck as seen in the models
No viking crown below funnel
Looks like some kind of Loft suites behind funnel.
One surf rider at top of stern also with a sky diving simulator.
Stern has lots of glass with huge double height glass area just like solstice but bigger which will hold a huge indoor lounge area kind of like what you might call a modern winter garden, but without many plants.
Shows a huge video wall that will probably be in the atrium as it shows cirque du soleil like acrobats in front of it.
Overall a very attractive ship in my opinion.
It will sail from New York.

You'll need to upload them on a file-hosting site and then link the image from there. I've done it for you now :-)
In terms of looks, I think it's one of the least attractive RCI ships so far (after VIKING SERENADE of course):

The boom sticking up looks like a steering handle on a coaster wagon. Maybe that's how they steer the ship!!vLOL

Overall, I'm pretty impress with the exterior of the ship. The front of the superstructure reminds me of the ex. NORDIC EMPRESS.

Not quite sure what to think of the Northstar...

Initial impressions...

NORTH STAR- I actually think this is pretty cool and would be spectacular on Alaskan or Panama Canal cruises. My only concern would be wind. Will they not operate this when the ship is in motion or in windy conditions. It may prove to be a sales gimmick more than a useful feature.

TWO70- I love this space...how are they doing the screens over the windows at night? It looks like one of the most spectacular venues on any ship.

INTERIOR CABINS- Brilliant! Will they all have the video wall "virtual balcony"? How good will this really look? And how will they keep them from being damaged? Again, like North Star, a great concept I hope is well executed.

SKYDIVING- Eh, not really that exciting to me...and it takes up a lot of space on deck.

BUMPER CARS- Again, a gimmick, but I'm grateful it isn't a dedicated space, but another use for the spors court. I also think the enclosed sports facility is a smart move to make this an all-weather class of ships.

EXTERIOR- She's definitely not the most beautiful ship out there...but she's no Epic either. I like the stern and the glass solarium above the bridge. Interesting that there really is no forward mast. There's a mini-funnel with exhaust complete with crown and anchor logo...but no radar mast. I suppose this is to accomodate North Star.

VIKING CROWN?- It's clearly not attached to the funnel structure. Might it be forward of North Star? Has RCI finally abandoned this trademark space that was it's original "wow" feature in favor of skydiving and ariel cranes? I wouldn't be surprised if it's gone.

OVERALL- Royal Caribbean has successfully maintained it's brand image of "innovation." They make Carnival look like the Grayhound Bus of the cruise industry.

Looking good! There are 3 things that I don't like however.

- The arm looks ridiculous, but I'm sure will be pretty cool for passengers.
- Not a lot of deck space, not as bad as Breakaway but really not much better.
- The stern profile is bad, really bad...

I do love the solarium, and the rest of the ship is looking very promising. Can't wait to see more!

Edit: Looks like bumper cars and the indoor basketball court is located in the 2 deck high glass space at the stern; that's too bad, a lounge there would have been awesome. People going for bumper cars and using the sports court wouldn't really care for the views.

No, the basketball court is located in the large space behind the funnel. The 2 deck glass space at the stern is where the Two70 venue is located. It is a lounge.

She reminds me of the Oasis of the Seas when shot from the front. A large vision class ship from the stern. And her middle is like a freedom class ship. Really interesting looking profile that looks well thought out. They put a lot of things on this ship but with the exception of the North Star it doesn't make it look like the cluttered mess that all the other ships have been doing. Even the latest from Disney has looked cluttered with that water coaster.

The deck plans are available and the things that jumped out at me are that the Dinning Room appears to be only 2 levels (based on my assumption of the Not Announced note) and there is no where for an ice rink.

The North Star could have been called the "Crow's Nest" --300ft. above sea level.
Capacity 13-14 people. If it's operates at sea can you imagine even under the gentlest seas that the movement would great. People might get sea sick.
The lines waiting to up there will be long.
Also what happens if it gets stuck in the up position. Lots of drag too!
Sorry to put cold water on this but it's a gimick!!

In a way, that might be the whole purpose of this contraption - like in the case of other amusement park rides.
