Dear all,

I looked up the new gross tonnage of the rebuilt CARNIVAL SUNSHINE (ex-CARNIVAL DESTINY) and noticed to my great surprise that she has become 20% smaller!

Old GT: 101,353
New GT: 82,897

This seems very unlikely to me, as a lot of extra decks were added, so the GT should have gone up, unless a lot of other spaces were opened up, but again, that also seems unlikely to me.
Did Equasis make a mistake here? Does anyone have the "real" new gross tonnage perhaps?

Carnival's own publicity figures a few months ago reported that she would go from 101,353 GRT to 102,583 GRT. The lower figure you've seen must be net tonnage, or maybe something else.

Between the extra decks added in front and closing in the back part of the pool deck I thought she would grow by more than just 1,500GT.

Thanks guys, an increase of about 1,500 GT would make much more sense indeed. It was indeed my impression that Equasis picked the wrong number.

Equasis have now updated the tonnage to the more reasonable sounding 103,881 GT, which means she gained over 2,500 GT, the equivalent of a decent short sea cargo ship!:
