I wrote about 20 innovations on the Quantum of the Seas

Quantum of the Seas

Barry Vaudrin & Cruising Authority

Scheduled to be deployed to the Asian market in May of 2015, Quantum of the Seas will have a few months to WOW American passengers until sister ship Anthem of the Seas is launched into the market. The following are TWENTY incredible innovations introduced on the Quantum of the Seas:

ONE - NorthStar reaches 300 feet above the ocean for spectacular views.

TWO - Ripcord iFly allows passengers to simulate a sky diving experience

THREE – SeaPlex is an indoor room that has numerous uses including a basketball court, bumper cars, a disco and many other activities.

FOUR - 03B Network offers the fasted speed high-bandwidth internet WiFi connectivity ever seen on a cruise ship at sea. A low-orbiting satellite beams high-speed internet to the ship, so passengers can Skype, watch Netflix, stay in-touch on Facebook and keep up with email while at sea on vacation.

FIVE - Smart Art – throughout the Quantum of the Seas some of the artwork utilizes video, interactive and kinetic elements.

SIX - Smart Check-in is a feature that greatly improves check-in at the cruise terminal, allowing passengers to go from pier to ship in just a few minutes. Passengers arrive at the pier and are greeted by agents with iPads, ready to check in guests. After passengers check-in, then they go through security and then are issued electronic boarding passes. It’s the smoothest, most efficient embarkation experience in the cruise industry.

SEVEN - Two70 is a new type of multi-purpose lounge with a unique, immersive experience, with a grand view of the ship’s wake that stretches at 270 degrees across the back of the ship. Perhaps the most expensive and technologically advanced room ever constructed on a cruise ship, Two70 offers one-of-a-kind production shows with projected images and video on the giant glass wall, six Robotic one hundred inch screens enhance the visuals of the production shows. Performers are seen appearing through ceiling and floor openings in the staging. There’s a gourmet restaurant, bar, library, all combined in this unique multi-purpose lounge that is busy day and night.

EIGHT - Robots at sea. Here’s a first, now passengers can experience a robotic bartender at the Bionic Bar. The same type of robots seen on the production-line of a car factory, the Quantum of the Seas has the Bionic Bar and also utilizes robots to synchronized one-hundred-inch HD screens in the Two70 lounge for the production shows and other multi-media presentations.

NINE –The Royal iQ App for passengers allows passengers to customize their cruise vacation aboard the Quantum of the Seas…plan in advance activities and excursions before you board the ship and managed on your own phone with Royal Caribbean’s iQ App.

TEN - RFID technology is wearable technology allowing passengers to enter their stateroom, purchase items onboard and book excursions with a unique rubber wrist-band electronic device worn like a watch.

ELEVEN - Dynamic Dining at sea. There are 18 different places to dine aboard the Quantum of the Seas offering more flexibility in dining than ever before. Times are changing, and no longer do you find one giant dinning room on the Quantum of the Seas, rather, there are multiple dinning rooms with different menus and décor, so passengers can choose where and when they dine. Most of the restaurants are included in the cruise fare, however; there are a few exclusive and unique dinning options that have an extra charge….but the extra charge is worth every penny because of the celebrity chefs and the exclusive dynamic environment in the specialty restaurants.

TWELVE - The Loft Accommodations or suites are the largest at sea. First introduced on the Oasis of the Seas, the Loft Suites on the Quantum of the Seas are vast, with comfortable amenities and even concierge service.

THIRTEEN - Music Hall. There is usually lots of great music on a cruise ship, yet on the Quantum of the Seas, Royal Caribbean introduces a dedicated Music Hall just for live music and dancing.

FOURTEEN - Dreamworks Experience. Now families and kids can create special memories with their favorite Dreamworks characters like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, the Penguins from Madagascar and more.

FIFTEEN - First wave-making pool at sea. Kids love to play in the water, and now on the Quantum of the Seas, they can experience fun in the sun in a wave-making pool.

SIXTEEN - Royal Theater Shows. Royal Caribbean introduces the full Broadway production of Mamma Mia. Sonic Odyssey and the Earth Harp is an immersive type of entertainment never seen on a cruise ship. Passengers can feel the music of this amazing one-of-a-kind string instrument that stretches out above the audience.

SEVENTEEN - Lighting – Quantum of the Seas uses only LED or Fluorescent lights throughout the ship, saving energy.

EIGHTEEN - Quantum of the Seas is the first Royal Caribbean vessel to deploy a new and advanced full air lubrication system built into the ship’s hull. This new system uses micro-bubbles to reduce the resistance between the ship’s hull and the ocean, allowing the ship to be more fuel-efficient and even gain half a knot of speed.

NINETEEN - Silicone-based anti-fouling paint makes the ship’s hull slippery as it passes through the ocean, allowing for more fuel-efficient operation.

TWENTY - Two giant stainless steel propellers and a podded system offers better fuel efficiency and optimized propulsion.

Quantum of the Seas is a One Billion Dollar vessel that is certain to WOW passengers for many years. There are of course more than twenty innovations on this incredible ship, but the ones listed in this article are some of the most notable. Author and Host of Cruising Authority, Barry Vaudrin, has been on over 300 cruises around the world, and as a Cruise Journalist, stays up-to-date on the latest cruise trends and vessels. Anyone considering a cruise vacation should visit The Cruise Brothers at cruisebrothers.com to find the best rates and customer service with expert cruise consultants.
