Reports from Germany are that Crystal Cruises (NYK) has purchased the Deutschland. An announcement is due on Monday with some speculating that Crystal will announce a new semi-exploration style program or else a German division.

The ship is surely a mismatch with the Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenade.

Crystal issued a flat out denial of this rumor both for themselves and NYK.

The speculation is a new build for Crystal to be announced tomorrow. Unless of course the announcement could be that Crystal has been sold .....

Turns out their "big" announcement was released their brochure for 2017.

It was probably the Chinese Whisper effect of TUI buying EUROPA 2 - evolving in to the wrong cruise line and wrong ship.

Deutschland is in the process of being sold, just the wrong buyer. I would not be surprised if NYK was a tire kicker on her. Someone suggested NYK takes her to become Asuka III and Crystal gets the Harmony back which would have worked for everyone.

But as it turns out someone else has a MOU with the folks liquidating Deilmann so Crystal is not the buyer. The Deutschalnd deal is expected to be settled next month but in the meantime it appears her class certificates lapsed so she will require the postponed drydocking, etc. before she can return to service.

Hi

The buyers of ' Deutschland ' could be the new Portugese cruise ship company ' Portuscale Cruises ' as both their classic cruise ships ' Lisboa ' and ' Porto ' are for sale so they will be left with just two cruise ships !

Lisboa was the 1955 British built ' Princess Danae ', which has some structual steel problems, and Porto was the 1965 built ' Arion ' when they both sailed with ' Classic International Cruises'.

The ' Deutschland ' would fit in nicely with their now upmarket fleet of classic cruise ships !

I should perhaps add that one of my old assistants, from my days with P & O Cruises, now lives in Gibraltar where the up market classic ' Deutschland ' is anchored in their eastern anchorage area ! lol

Hello everybody,

the insolvency administrator appointed for both the MS „Deutschland“ Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, the company which owns the M/S "Deutschland", and Reederei Peter Deilmann GmbH today announced that all upcoming cruises have been cancelled. Passengers booked in Germany will be able to reclaim their desposits through the company's statutory insurance.

While a 50 person crew will remain on the ship (minimum safe manning is 26 persons), all other staff, crew and employees ashore are to receive their dismissals. The ship's class is valid until February 28th, 2015.

Kieler Nachrichten newspaper in the meantime reports that sale negotiations with the "most promising" potential buyer have failed.

Best,

Raoul

Sorry, I seemed to have missed this story. What has happened to Peter Deilmann Ltd?

Have they gone bust?

Hello everybody,

the insolvency administrator for the M/S "Deutschland's" operating company today announced that the ship has been sold to a U.S. company with "appropriate experience in the cruise industry". Delivery is expected for late May, 2015. According to the administrator's press release, the new owner intends to retain the name "Deutschland".

The buyer has not been named, so far.

Best,

Raoul

The reports are that it is an investor out of Texas. He is looking to build a firm like Portuscale it seems. I guess someone with too much money looking to lose some of it!

and

So, who are the new owners??!!

An already existing company with appropriate experience in the cruise industry or a new company!?!?

I am wondering if ' Deutschland ' will be operated by one of the ship management companies who plan to charter her out to a cruising company !

ISP ( Now Fleet Pro ) come to mind who already manage and charter out various passenger ships which may be owned by a non disclosed owner !

After her mooring lines broke the ' Deutschland ' is reported to have damaged 150 meters of quayside at the spanish port of Malaga, on the 8th April, 2015.

She had entered the port to be inspected by prospective buyers !

No news on if the ship is damaged.

After nearly seven months of layup in Gibraltar waters, Deutschland's funnel livery has now been painted out and she has been re-registered in Nassau.

She is about to leave Gibraltar and is apparently heading to Ismailia for a 100-day hotel ship charter, after which she is doing a short stint for Pullmantur before joining Semester at Sea.

I've uploaded a couple of pics here:

She is going to become the new ship for Semester at Sea. You can see more details on their homepage.

Rumors of other various short-term charters seem to be that, just rumors.
