What is the other board?

I had a romance with a crew member on the Rembrandterdam. I had my choice of 2 gorgeous Lithuanians. One had a scheduling problem, the other worked out fine.

The one with scheduling was a bar-tender [made eyes at me] and got off work at 4am. The other was a shop tender. We took a liking to each other, met on the first day, and started to hang out in his shop.

He looks like Leonardo Di Caprio of Titanic fame. Fitting we meet on a ship.

It ended up asking about each other's evening plans, Me offering him a drink after work, and him offering me a bottle in my cabin. We made a date mid-cruise for him to come to my cabin after work. I missed the midnight buffet, but had a better meal We spent the last 2 nights and last afternoon together.

I thought I was in heaven on the most beautiful ship still afloat, on the beautiful St Lawrence River, and intimate with the most beautiful and tender guys I ever met.

The cruise was the 7 best days of my life. Meeting him made it extra special.

We contact by Email still.

If you hook up with a crew member
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
If crew members are caught in a passenger cabin they are fired on the spot and sent back to their home country.

You would think that crew, during there time off, could do what they liked? Mind you, do they really get time off? I suppose they are always representing the Cruise Line?

Relationships between crew members are common, are they not? I assume that this is tolerated by the cruise line?

I once met someone on a cruise and had a whirlwind romance that lasted only the duration of the cruise. I was cruising with friends and not really looking for romance, but romance came looking for me. It is true that the crew and staff are not allowed to be in a passenger's cabin, but I don't think there was any rule about no passengers in crew cabins. The person I met was from England and worked in the casino. I found that the casino staff was jealous of the cruise staff because "they" did not have a curfew and could mix and mingle with the passengers in any of the passenger areas. The casino staff could only mingle and hang out in one specific lounge, and only during very limited times. I never saw or heard from this person after the cruise, even though we exchanged addresses. It was exciting to engage in this romance in ports and on the ship. We went for a walk on deck, and one night talked till the wee hours of the night. I have a feeling that the crew have fun meeting new people each week and seek out those little romances each week. I wasn't disappointed that we didn't keep in touch after the cruise, because this person wasn't exactly my type, but we had a nice time and it made the cruise that much more exciting. During the cruise I did get hit on by at least 4 Jamaican waiters, which sometimes made me feel a little uncomfortable.

I cruised the Rotterdam in June of 77 with my mother[I was 14 at the time] and some friends of ours. Their daughter, age 20 struck up a friendship with our waiter. He came to visit 7 months later and they have been married since 78 and have two children.

I am not surprised
Something magic about that ship.
She brings out the best in me.
The whole gestalt-how bits and pieces fit together- is like no other.
Canberra is near equal in magic.
Actually I had my choice of 4 crewmembers-of both sexes.

Rembrandterdam is the 'real' love boat.

Interesting topic! I've been on both sides so to speak. I used to work onboard Princess Cruises as Purser, and had several flings with passengers. I've done it both ways, brought them to my cabin, and also went to their cabin. This practice is very common, regardless of what the rules say.

I've also been a passenger and had a fling with a staff member. Most recently in fact, with a dancer from Australia. I must say it does help to make the cruise a bit more memorable.

It's funny, when I worked onboard ship, in several ports there would actually be women lining the dock waiting for that "special" crew member they had a fling with. In many cases, the crew member probably did not even remember the fling. There used to be a saying among certain Officers and crew, "POW". It stands for "passenger of the week". Rather krewd, but true I'm afraid.

If you take a shipboard for what it's worth, nothing more, nothing less, then there is no problem. Both parties have a good time and maybe a few stories to tell back home. Once in a while the romance does turn into something more meaningful, but not very often. More likely, someone ends up getting hurt.

One more tidbit comes to mind from working onboard. In many cases, the Officers will not be seen in the nightclub until the last night or second to the last night of the cruise. They will hook up with a passenger and hopefully both parties will have a good time. The reason they wait until the end of the cruise is that they know the passenger will disembark the next day, and they don't have to worry about being "stalked" for six or seven days!

Wow, this post really brings back some memories!

Wow, I'm almost tempted to leave Mrs.M at home next cruise!

Ernie, you should write a guide book on this subject "The Good Nautical Romance Guide".

No-one ever seems to talk about the old Italian Line which had three wonderful ships. The Leonardo da Vinci, the Raffaello and the Michelangelo. I am trying to find a waiter named Gennaro Falanga from 25 years ago - just a good friend that I used to meet when he came to New York. I have even been to Italy looking for him but I am having such a great time meanwhile in this my latest obsession.

Of coarse the females get lucky, The "eager"( I won't use the word I want to) male crew members are happy to offer their services, when was the last time you heard about a customer and female crew member? Just a man's point of view.

On the same heavan sent Rembrandterdam cruise,
I was trying on a T-shirt in the boutique, I asked the female shop tender if it fit properly, she rubbed my back up and down and said yes.

On the Harald Jarl, at age 22 the cruise director had her 18yo daughter on board and she tried to match us up.

I had a little romance with two different enterainers on NCL Leeward in 1998. And this past November, while in port at Key West, I met a crew member from another ship that was also in port.

Everything I've read on other sites nearly shouts Do Not Do It and explain the risk to the crew members. Now they tell me . . .

Hi Ernie,

Just got back from the Pacific Princess and I did have an affair with a crew member.

You posted this long after my first affair on the Rembrandt. I remembered your comments during this one just a few hours old.

My corrollary:

If you are the youngest single passenger on a ship as I usually am, you get sized up as the POW.

I had opportunity with 3 this time, but only one I really wanted.

Spend a few days getting to know each other before jumping in. Crew members caught in passenger cabins are fired on the spot and sent home.

It takes a few days to build trust. Let them make the first move, otherwise they may think you are from corporate trying to entrap them.

Male crew members with women is far more risky than same gender or male passenger with female crewmember.

Entertainers and Officers are fair game. Shop tenders and cabin stewards too. Bar tenders and waiters work until 2-3 am and morning flings are not good since they are likely to be seen leaving your cabin. Dining room waiters work for tips and play to passenger's emotions. If they are still nice to you after you tip them, go for it.

Handsome/ugly? What is a perfect 10 for one person is a 5 for another.

KEEP IT QUIET! Those who are not getting it can be jealous, and the first one to spoil the party.

Further romance? If one can afford to take a cruise, you are a bottomless pit of wealth compared to a crew member. Most are from poor countries.

Either way: those not under the tyranny of 2, spend the single supplement and have fun

RE passenger/crew encounters
Had a few "encounters" with crew off QE2 ,playing with fire maybe but as long as your carefull and keep quite its ok, one of the better reasons for going steerage! you wouldnt get this in Queen Grill!!!!!
It has and always been holiday flings with no ties. suits both willing parties.
any other QE2 conquests???

I had a romantic encounter with a passenger (while I was signed on as crew) and I also had a little romance with a Steiner.

The passenger gal I met up with was traveling with her grandmother. We spend some time chatting in the Grand Lounge for a couple of days. Then on the 4th night out and a day or so before arriving in New York, we took a walk to the Princess Grill restaurant...there was no one there...the moon was full and glistening across the sea through the big windows...and I snuck a kiss...the scene could have been right out of the Love Boat TV show...the perfect romantic atmosphere.

I've been known to be a randy sort every once in a while on a cruise. There are plenty of opportunities to have a "shipboard romance" but they might not seem as readily apparent as you want. And in this day of ever increasing security and liability, it's become tougher and tougher for these liasons to take place as crew members are extremely wary of someone trying to "entrap" them or the line, thus putting their jobs at risk.

It's not a matter of "who" or "when" or "where" or "if";
If you hook up w/a crew member, you better watch out for the "syph"!
It's been said that love at sea can border on the ethereal
Just make sure that she (or he) don't give you somethin' venereal.
In a lifeboat, in a cabin, wherever your body is willin'
Just as long as the juice you get ain't a dose of penicillin.
