26 days he'd been adrift! Lucky to have been spotted.

Not the only ones we can rely on, but of those that we can rely on, the most reliable!

If that makes sense ...

Kind words -- but sadly, we Brits no longer rule the waves. In fact RCCL have a bigger fleet than us!!

(Anyone here served on a warship?)

Who's side are you on! We always have the Sun's 'Armarda' (UK Joke)!

Do not underestimate our rag-tag fleet! Remember the Faulkland's task force?

We still have our No.1 troop ship, the QE2. Maybe we can call on the QM2 next time around?

Well, we won the "Hands Off Our Booze Cruises" campaign against HM Customs, so who knows?

(For non-UK people, Customs have just raised the "no questions asked" limits for importing cigarettes into the UK from the EU, from 800 to 3,200.)

We could have QE2 and Aurora in the centre, with Arcadia and Sunbird fore and aft, and Seawing, Carousel, Oceana and Sundream darting around the edges ... what a battle fleet!

On a warlike theme, two tales which I find amusing and I reckon are worth repeating...

1 Sunbird, going along the long channel from Mahon harbour in Mallorca, passes a tied-up First Choice ship. Captain goes on the PA: "Ahoy, Last Choice!" and gives them five ear-splitting seconds on the whistle.

2 Sunbird, leaving Naples, sees a US cruiser at anchor. Sunbird captain decides to circle it, to give us pax a better view. Cruiser comes on the radio, piped over the PA: "Attention Sunbird, this is US warship. State your intentions!". Eek!

Should the 'Sun' not be encouraging the British public to buy there goods from mainland shops, thus paying there full tax and contributing to our wonderful health, education and welfare state?

Under EU rules the Customs are still acting illegally, and they've only raised it because Brussels is threatening to fine the UK 1000s a day.

I think others have alluded to this, but we Canadians tend to get bit ticked when we hear this. I don't want to make this a political post, but using a travel related example, Canada accepted all the international flights denied acces to the USA on Sept. 11, even though there was the possibility some might have had hijackers onboard. And of course we have contributed (and lost) troops in Afghanistan.
