I hope that NCL entertainment is normally better than this - see here.

I saw this on NORWEGIAN DAWN last week. It was "interesting" and I'll leave it at that. Otherwise the entertainment was quite good.

Ermm. what was it supposed to be Ernie? I can understand why the audience appeared to be laughing. Seeing as though Malcom posted it, I was quite expecting one of the 'towels/sheets' to come undone, especially from the guy who didn't seem able to kneel in his outfit.

Frankly I'm not quite sure. I suppose just a skit that apparently NCL is very proud of. They kept mentioning in PA's and the Freestyle Daily not to miss "The Fountains" on the last night. It's a "must see" so they say. I went, I saw, and I could not figure out what the fuss was all about. Maybe they want to make it a shipboard tradition like "if I were not upon the sea" has become??

Saw this on our Norwegian-Jewel-cruise 9 october from Istanbul to Barcelona.
It's called "fountain", as all participant do take full mounths of water (or is it real giggling-water like alcohol), and supposed to look like 'roman-fountain'. On the music they spit some water, sometimes more, sometimes less.
There was a huge promotion during the cruise as it was the premiere of this (childish) entertainment. But I must say......lot of other (evening)entertainment in the show-lounge during was less worth seeing.
It was 'played' by the cruisedirector (Mike Zwalovfcsky(?) and his staff.
Hendrikus.

Wow, that's hard to imagine!

When I cruised with NCL in 2001, the Production shows were very good if you like traditional Broadway type song and dance. The dance troop was pretty big - for a ship.

NCL also seemed to specialize in live 'big band' and 'jazz' music, which was once agin very good if you like that type of thing.

Do they still offer the above or have they gone more 'modern' and/or 'dummed' it down??

So this involves some sort of audience participation, which explains the laughing going on. They are not laughing at the spectacle we are seeing, but what they are also doing themselves. Neither do we know what led up to these 3mins or what went on afterwards.

It just emphasies how seeing these short clips totally out of context can give an entirely incorrect impression of the goings on.

Of course Pam. I was not really suggesting that it was a reflection of NCL's entertainment in general. In fact it did make me smile, which is no mean feat.

But as for not knowing what led up to these 3mins or what went on afterwards, it's still people spitting water! It's certainly not Shakespeare.

All the mass-market lines offer audience participation shows. On RCI the 'Mr and Mrs' shows (using passengers) are attended to capacity, which the regular shows are not always. I bet the pro-entertainers find this rather sad, although they do normally get the night off.

No, this is not an audience participation activity. This (The Fountain) is performed on the last night during the farewell show, and it's performed by the cruise staff and Cruise Director. The laughing you hear are just audience members that find it funny for whatever reason.

As for what happens before and after, absolutely nothing. The video clip is pretty much exactly what you see if you are on the ship. After "The Fountain", a selection of the crew and officers come out and sings some farewell song and wish everyone a safe journey home. The video clip is not out of context at all!

Sorry I mis-read Henri's comments, thinking the participants were the audience. In which case back to square one, the whole thing looks ridiculous
