As of Friday it has been 7 years and 11 cruises later as a contributor here. I don't think Joe has fully recovered LOL

It was my very first message board, and learned a lot about people's online vs telephone and face to face personalities. They often do not correlate.

My membership # is 1626, the latest contributor is 11,000 give or take.

The board has evolved a bit. In 2000 it was still exotic to converse in cyberspace and meet the real people afterwards.

I have had a lot of fun, learned more than a stack of books could teach, and made some great friends from all over the world.

Some of my ideas are controversial and unorthodox, however I am being me.

Here are some of my favorite threads

Wow David - I just looked at my number - 1878 - musn't have been too far behind you - like you this was my first board and one of the very few I actually rely on for information and intelligent conversation.

How the time has flown!!!!

Keep up the great inflow of ideas and view points everyone!

Hey David, we're not getting younger, are we ?
I had a look at my number, it's 5500. So if the last registered are at 11000 or so, I guess I'm pretty in the middle...

I've always been puzzled how the numbers work.

Although they do seem loosely connected with how long you have been a member, I'm not sure if it is that simple. I joined very early on and am 301, but I doubt if there were 300 members before me - more like 30? Joe is 622 and it's his web site?

Joe, how does it work?

Malcolm - Perhaps Joe has not always posted using his current "identity"?

For example I appear to have just joined but of course I have been around longer than my number 11349 would suggest.

Other than Joe & Malcolm, guess I've got the rest of you beat. I joined in July 1999 (#797) - had just received my first computer from my son and Cruise Talk was the first cruising forum that I came across and joined.

There used to be a lot more women posting here, but they have since disappeared.

Really?...... Including Malcolm, there are at least two earlier registrations on this page only...

...and even 3, if we add BigUFan who previously was "Joe at Pwc" (n°225) if I make no memory mistake.

I was wondering also, how Fairsky figured he had us all beat? Hope he'll explain.

Although we both registered in July 1999, I think I've got him beat by over 1800 posts.

My original handle was "Barryboat" as opposed to LeBarryboat. My original start date where I first logged-in was in March of 1999....so I guess I've been posting here for 8 years. 1999 was when I purchased my first decent computer and when I first went online. I think the first time I ever sent an email was 1997. After doing some research for my latest Blog posting it dawned on me that I've been at this cruise ship, ocean liner thing for 30 years now!

I've been a Member for just 4 1/2 years.

As for the 'number of posts' outdoing each other, I'll take quality over quantity. Some Members will be blathering about 'I know you are but what am I?' or 1-sentence retorts in a tennis match-style heated exchange of words also add up in their total number of posts but contribute little. You could have 5000+ posts spewing hate and venom, or 500 posts educating with technical data, experiences, and expertise. Some members will sit back for months and years at a time just observing, then others have to put in their 2-cents on every topic.

But thats the nature of a Board like this? Contribution and discussion of our ideas, ideals, experiences, dreams, desires and heartaches mixed in with heated discussion, debates, and arguments. Sounds like a family reunion at Thanksgiving?

Thats how it was for me to. I found cruise news first and discovered cruise talk a few years later.

I have to say that even though I have been here a relativly short time I have really enjoyed CT and I have learned a lot from here.

As allready told I also enjoy visiting Cruise Talk every evening.
I have been here for a few Years, but mostly as a reader, and now and then as a writer.
I like CT and the users for being very serios and friendly, but not without good humor.
And most of all for plenty of good shipphotos from all over the world.
I found the site by a Googlesearch on cruiseships some years ago, and stayed.

Sincerely René.

I just checked - member # 3185 and a mere 229 posts seems to leave me among the more inattentive among you. I read much more than I write, and appreciate most of the postings most of the time. I especially thank those who are able to post so many great photos and am sorry I don't have that capacity.
