I did interview Jim Nabors(Gomer Pyle) and Frankie Avalon. Most of the time I respect their privacy and just give celebrities a nod. These are performers on cruises anyway and most are left alone.

When I worked the inagural season on the Liberty of the Seas, Gloria Estefan and her family spent the week. We all let them have their privacy as did most of the guests. She even sat in on one of the karaoke sessions I hosted and it was a night when participation was non-existant. It was all I could do to ask "Are there any five time Grammy award winning recording artists in the house who might want to sing some 'Conga' or even Happy Birthday'?" However, the crowd swarmed her later in the voyage on the dance floor of our 80s party when "Conga" came into the mix. Well, when the powers that be put it in the mix in the very last minute after realizing it wasn't part of the program. The 'Wow' was delivered. Also, the talented and tall Tommy Tune was aboard as well. But I only saw him at the ice show.

Rita Moreno was on a QE2 cruise I did in the 1990s. She also perforned onboard. As I posted before, Cary Grant was on an Alaska cruise I did in the late 1970s.

Of all the ships in service today, I would guess QE2 has by far hosted the most celebrities-some real big ones at that!

Most celebrities (at least A list) don't take cruises just like they don't fly commercial anymore.

It's all about privacy and frankly I don't blame them.

I agree w/Ernie that most big celebrities will fly private or charter a yacht. But at times there are the odd celebrity sightings on airplanes.

In the last several years I have been surprised who I've seen on planes out of LAX. Bill Clinton (Al Gore flys private ) was on a flight I was on as was Cher and Betty White (love her!!). Janet Jackson (was getting off the flight I was about to board) and one amazing looking passenger- Pamela Anderson! OMFG she was completely made-up, big hair, mini skirt and super high heels-a living latex Barbie doll sitting right across the aisle from me.

for the last 7 years we have done the same June eastbound crossing on QE2 and QM2 and have always had "someone" on board from Uma Thurman to John Cleese (twice) and David Bowie (who was very strange and would roam the QE2 at night in his bathrobe). Karen Allen was also with us one year (Indiana jones fame).

Barbara Walters was on the QM2 4 night prez cruise last Feb. Everyone left her alone but she got her fair share of stares! I honestly was shocked to see her onboard but maybe she needed a quick getaway from 'The View'. It can get crazy on that show!!!

The NORWAY used to have big-name celebrities (and has-beens) on board nearly every week. Just as on QE2, some of them preferred the privacy of their suite, and you only saw them on stage; others were more gregarious and enjoyed being around the ship, mingling with passengers.

When I sailed on SEA PRINCESS to Australia in the late 80's, Burt Lancaster was onboard. He was really fantastic. He was on vacation but put aside time for a Q&A with with both passengers and crew. My grandmother became quite friendly with his girlfriend, as they both liked to gamble. We had dinner one night together in the dining room.

Here is a picture of "Ernie & Burt".

Actress Florence Henderson sailed for a week aboard CROWN MONARCH when I worked there in 1991. Actually her husband, who was a hypnotist, was the featured celebrity that sailing, and he did a couple of shows.

But Florence was really down-to-earth and spent a lot of time with us staff members and passengers. She climbed Dunn's River Falls with us, and was on the bridge upon departure from Ocho Rios that day, when we had our infamous collision with SEAWARD!
