I am NOT going to write a review of this cruise!
RCLs "WOW" should be ---"OW".
14 days to Norway was BORING!
Even as a Diamond member on RCL ,I am considering not going back on RCL.
Maybe after awhile I might change my mind.

Let's start with the cabin:
83-- Mid ship.
Door lock broken- they did not fix it.
Drawers on cabinets, closet doors- would not close all the way, some stuck difficult to open- all the drawer rails came loose ,missing screws, clothes found stuck behind some drawers. Fixed.
You no longer have a refrigerator but a cooler that has the same temp as the room.-a joke
They replaced it with a new one. Same issue at least it had a light that worked.
Beds looked like a sway back horse.Big depression in middle. Maybe they felt you would not roll out of bed in rough seas.LOL!
Sofa looked dirty.

Carpet in the passageways worn and dirty especially in front of each cabin door.

Americans were outnumbered 10 to 1.-----3000 to 300 US.
This was a Norway cruise yet a big Brit flag hung in the Royal Promenade.
We had a communication problem. Even though it's English it's hard to understand the various dialects.
This cruise definitely favored the Brits, entertainment, trivia games etc.
(NOTE: NO OFFENSE TO THE BRITS)
There were snide remarks made by the cruise staff and by some passengers about Americans.

Shows etc: Poor except for Ice Show, String Quartet and a singer. Same old boring Singers and dancers.

Weather: Cold, Rainy, and Foggy. Nobody in the pools,Flow Rider , and any other venues on deck

Food: It was the same for 14 days. In the Windjammer. Got tired of what was offered. Some of the wait staff ignored you. The omelet station took their time to even ask what you wanted.
Chops: Food was the same as the dining room.IMHO My wifes filet was tough and grissled. The only good thing was the quiet room to eat.
NOT worth it!!!

SAD Story: 3 people passed on this cruise.
A rescue Heli came into Olden(town)20 minute ride to nearest hospital, patient died enroute.
Military heli came out to sea to pick up patient, also died enroute to either Denmark or Belguim.

Average age of passengers on this cruise was approx.70 .A guestimate.

Norway: EXPENSIVE!!!! EG. a SD card 16g was $79 us.

Note: there were good things also about the cruise.
I always tell it like it is good or bad. This one was not a good one.

I'm not sure whether you think this was a good thing or a bad thing.

But surely none of this should have been any surprise, given that it was a cruise that was a round-trip from Southampton?

'Twas ever thus. Norway is one of the most expensive countries on Earth, and is well known for it.

Norway only has 5 million people. This is a fairly large country so population centers on cities.
Lots of woods there.
Unemployment stands at 2% with the government begging people to come there to work. If you are unemployed the government could subsidize you for up to 3 years.
Expensive to live there. Taxes are high too Income tax can reach 30%.Free heath coverage and education.

Please don't get me wrong on Norway. I very much like the cleani look of everything. No litter ,nicely painted homes, etc.roads were very good.
The steep winding road near a hotel ( highest in Europe) was a challenge for the bus driver.Very foggy there.
I liked the Iron Age farm where they explained every day life inside one of the in the ground houses. The narrator even wore traditional clothing from the period.
The country side was very densely wooded Once you see it you will realize where the term"Norwegian Wood" comes from. The ride to a mineral mine was very scenic with all the lakes and rivers.
The country was great but not the cruise part.

I can understand being upset about a few things but did you seriously think that RCI only books to Americans? They are an international cruise line. They market to more countries than just the U.S.

Also the last time I checked a cruise line did not control the weather.

Sorry that you had issues. I would make sure that I let RCI know about the issues that you were unhappy with.

Sorry that you did not enjoy your cruise Frosty4.

If I do a round trip from Miami to the Caribbean, there are many more American's on-board than Brits! Things on-board are very much geared up for American tastes. However that's only to be expected.

Carnival have a multitude of brands aimed at different nationalities. You will note that their ‘Fun ships’ don't come to Europe too often. Many Brits feel more comfortable with the P&O product and Italians with Costa etc. However RCI adapt their product a little when they cruise from different ports, such as Southampton. This can include food, service and entertainment.

Royal Caribbean cannot be blamed for some of your comments:

Norway is a very beautiful country. It’s rather peaceful and VERY expensive. It can often be raining, cold and foggy, even in the summer. That’s the nature of mountains and Fjords. Norway is definitely NOT a sunshine destination and often appeals to elderly Brits.

Most of RCI’s ships are designed for Caribbean climates and not ‘cold weather’ cruising. The interior spaces quickly become over-crowded when the outer decks are not useable. Ships like their ‘Radiance’ Class, the older P&O ships and QM2 etc. are better designed for cooler climates with indoor pools etc.

There is no excuse for the well-worn fixtures and fittings. I did a Caribbean in 2004 from Miami on-board ‘Explorer of the Seas’ and it turned out to be just ‘pre-refit’. It looked like they had let the ship deteriorate too far too me.

As for food, you cannot expect great food on a mass market ship these days, unless you are paying a supplement for 'alternative dining' and even then it is not guaranteed.

I am seriously considering a cruise to the fjords,. Norway is indeed an expensive country, and I think that a cruise is one of the more budget conscious ways to visit the country, though, sadly, superficial.

would july be a good month weather like ?

Cruise vacations are inherently superficial, however, in this case traveling by ship offers you a different experience - you will get views you just won't get when only traveling ashore. Of course, there are better and worse itineraries - just be careful when planning your cruise.

July and August are peak season and perfectly fine - of course, there is no guarantee for 'good' weather. Personally, I enjoy going to Scandinavia - and also Norway - during the winter months but I would avoid the time when it's not yet winter but also not summer anymore.

In addition to weather, don't forget sun. If you're planning a cruise that goes north of the Arctic Circle, the midnight sun will be most visible in the second half of June. Obviously, even further south the days are very long, and this will continue into July. But this is one thing worth bearing in mind.

We've done two 2-week cruises to North Cape (and, once, beyond) in mid-June. The first time we had great weather for the second half; the second time we had great weather for the whole fortnight. We count our blessings!

For a Norwegian coastal cruise you might want to consider Hurtigruten: http://www.cruisetalkshow.com/id146.html

No non-sense Norwegian cruise, but prepare in advance to make sure you see the specific ports you want. Maybe get off the Hurtigruten and stay a couple days in a port, then jump back on the Hurtigruten to finish your journey.
