It is about a 150' stretch with a sharpening of the bow, 50' midsection wiht an extra lifeboat module, plus a fantail.

Interesting desirod7. The R-class ships could all need a bit of a stretch. Nice ships.

The R class ships have the illusion of looking much bigger then they are, that is the feeling I always have when walking alongside one of the R ships.

You new bow reminds me of Aurora. What have you planned for her stern? A couple of terraced decks would look nice and maybe more suitable with the classic styled interior.

Hi Onno,

The Regatta aft area is cabins facing the wake.

The fantail deck would be a "quiet deck" and allow non balcony passengers to enjoy the wake w/o peering into the aft balconies below.

Tim,
I would be curious to know what FDR thinks of my idea?
------------
At SeaTrade, I had heard that terraced balconies on the Grand Princess lack privacy for nude sunbathing and collect litter from above.

The Destiny class ships have two magradome pool areas: midship and aft. The midship has the music and the honky-tonk where the aft section is quiet. I researched this since I almost took a cruise on the Triumph with extended family and know for sure that the older generation wants the quiet area.

The Regal Empress aft decks have music where the bow lido is quiet.

What I liked most about the late Sea Breeze was 5 levels of deck terracing aft and 2 forward. Each area took on its own character depending on the music/activities/food etc or lack of.

Some of the balconies on the Grand Class have absolutely no privacy at all. It is only the top 2 levels that cannot be viewd at all from above. Much like the Vista stern balconies, no way would I ever want one.

Westerdam's aft balconies viewed from the Lido

If you feel like aiming a grape, see here.

One of Pungpui's photos in the gallery showa the view down on Star Princess

If you build balconies offering more privacy, you usally get less sun. So, the question is: How much privacy do you need on your balcony? Finally only very few balconies offer privacy.

Extraordinaire Desirod!
Most operators would simply stretch the vessels a la RVL style, but added one ultimate fantasy bow and stern work!
I think your rendition does add Je ne sais quoi Classique profile to those high class ship's rather boxy profiles....

The Regattalooks much better after your remodelling, David !!

Privatising that very special place, the fantail, is in my eyes a real shame, with added infamy the pigeonhole effect of those subdividers...

I can understand why people would like to be in them, but still, it diminishes the effect and feeling of a "sea-adventure together", and the fantail is a very special place, romantic, IHM

David,
how about fitting a mvPrinsendam style stern?
After seeing a footage of Wally Power, a yacht from Italy, I think a straight bow would not be out of place, specially with those Edwardian interiors?

The "R" class ships are fine, just the way they are.
We've done a 25 day b-2-b on the Pacific Princess and just completed a 31 day b-2-b on Oceania's Insignia!

Royal Caribbean added a new bow to the Viking Serenade in a shipyard in San Diego...so it has been done. Adding the aft deck to the R ship is a bit more complicated, but the bow addition and maybe a stretch in the middle would work.

Some photos of the old and new bow of Vilking Serenade (No longer doing business with my website)

Gives the odd giggle and photo opportunity. I thought only P&O cruisers had a reputation for socks 'n sandals.. but this wasn't Arcadia. Someone next to me, wondered if he could aim a chip, but decided against it.

Pam..with apologies to whomever may be the 'subject'

Why is everybody so hung up on "privacy"? You still have a private balcony whether people can look down and see you or not. It is still "private" space that is your own and you share with no one else. Seems like there must be more nudists and sex outdoors enthusiasts than you might realize!

Exactly. Having some fresh air is worth a lot, and it is not necessary to offer a big balcony with "privacy" to all cabin categories. - I have no problem if someone leaning over the handrail could see me reading - Trying to attempt this often results in pretty ugly ships. Also, one must not forget that it is difficult to "hide" the balcony without having a dark, tunnel like cabins.

Here is the Insignia, identical to Regatta.
The stretch sharpen's the bow, increases midsection, and gives a fantail over the stern.
Upper deck houses reproportioned too.

I think the fantail needs a little more work, but te overall effect is good. It makes you wonder if the original designers intended this class to be stretched ...?
