The 4th new build for BC Ferries has left the shipyards in Germany on her way to the west coast of Canada, by way of Panama. I know several readers here tracked the previous 3 trips, and now the 4th if underway.
The first three ferries were double enders built for the inside waters off British Columbia. This 4th vessel is the replacement for the Queen of the North, now referred to as the Queen of the Deep out here. She sank in 1200 feet of water 2 years ago, and the hearing are still underway to determine what actually happened.

Thanks for the update. The 'Queen of the North' was the best looking ferry in the fleet. Ashame she was lost.

Don't forget about the MV Sonia that is Now BC Ferries Northern Adventure, she was bought used in Europe and I think she was tracked over to Vancouver too was she not?

Thank you for reminding us Grant. Since your post I have been checking on her daily [I did follow the others too]. She's getting there at, almost leisurely between 13 - 14 kts.

A nice looking ship. How well in Sonia received in Canada? She looked quite a basic vessel, but with nice lines when I saw her in Barcelona a few years back now, but before any refit for BC Ferries.

Pam-from what I have heard, she has been quite well received. The crew love the accomodations, more than the basics found on Queen of Prince Rupert. The passenger cabins too are larger and better than on the Qof the N. There were a few more teething problems than bargained for! Car deck doors have been problematic, the PA systerm was not adequate, and there were a few HVAC issues as well. Word is she handles well, even in the open Hecate Straits and Queen Charolette Sound during heavy weather. I wish there were more outside deck areas facing outwards. She will work Prince Rupert to the Queen Charoltte Islands, and the new vessel will ply the inside passage. The very tired Queen of Prince Rupert will be sold off. I'll miss her!

I travel on BC Ferries regularly & enjoy my 2 hour cruises very much. I have had several unexpected crossings on the Queen of Vancouver recently, after she was supposed to have been retired. It is great to see these old ferries hanging on. They have great character.

I was sad to see the Queen of Saanich go. I first sailed on her in 1973, (my first BC Ferry) so I had a soft spot for her. This year I am hoping to sail on the Black Ball 'Coho' from Port Angeles, the forerunner to them all.
