I see where the UK has had a lot of snow recently.
Maybe Pam M and Malcohm can comment.
Not any here yet in Illinois but the border states with Canada(and Canada itself ) has lots of snow.
With snow cover, temps will usually be colder for the Winter.
Global warming, I wonder??
Frosty 4 ---no pun intended

We just had some flurries in Toronto Ontario Canada yesterday that melted as it hit the ground.

They've had some snow north of the city in ski country & lots in Western Canada especially Calgary.

As long as it stays away from Toronto I'm happy.

Here where I live in Denmark, we have lots of snow allready. About 35 centimeters, very beautiful.

Best regards
René.

The slightly scary thing, the second year running, is that this is exactly one of the predicted effects for the UK of global warming, as the Gulf Stream is progressively shut off.

It's worth remembering that the UK is at the same latitude as Labrador. I really don't think that we could survive as a country if we had Labrador's climate.

We had a couple of inches in South Yorkshire late on Friday night; nothing since (tough more forecast). Mainly it's colder, much colder than normal. If you look at here (Snow in South Yorkshire), the last four images are pictures I took yesterday morning during a walk across the fields near my home.

However: compared to what happens in the likes of Wisconsin, the Dakotas, etc, or even in New York & Chicago every winter, what we've got is nothing. Our problem is that because this is a rare event we have little provision for it. Although this snowfall marks the third winter in succession in which we've had lying snow, that's really unusual. Prior to this I think there was just one winter in about eight years when we had snow. The winters were increasingly mild, too - hardly a day below freezing. Up to about three years ago, all the comment was about how spring was coming earlier & earlier thanks to the ever-milder winters....

Well, since I posted my earlier contribution things have changed quite a bit. We've had at least 18 inches her in Sheffield, possibly more - i've got a picture of a table in the garden with what looks like two feet or more of snow on top of it. Transport is at a standstill, schools are shut, many people can't get to work - it's all a bit wearing.

I wish I was going on a Caribbean cruise right now. Except that I probably wouldn't be able to get to the airport, and the plane wouldn't be able to take off even if I did.

Looks like tonight we will see some snow 3-8" . We get the Lake enhanced snow off of Lake Michigan.
All the Great Lakes dump tons of snow when the winds blow across them. Right noe New York state is getting it.
Got the snowblower all gassed up and ready to go!

We are receiving our first 'significant' snow of the year overnight and through Wednesday sunrise (about 6-8" when all is said and done), but you'd think it was a blizzard: after the first snowflake hits the ground and everybody calls off from work. Just got home from a 22hr shift. Bleh.

Sorry to see that the UK and Europe are really having bad weather. They(news) showed the Eiffel Tower in a heavy snow. Could barely make it out.
Light snow here now ,but Saturday night and Sunday brings in another storm and Cold temps.
At least we all will have a White Christmas.
