Yet again, Pam and I managed to be on the same cruise and not meet up.

In the cold light of day this seems a little melodramatic but it really caught the mood on the day.

Regards, Colin.

Excellent Colin, I have yet to even look at mine. Now you have comfirmed my thoughts. I did see you, well I recognised your wife from past photos, but was not 100% sure. Sitting across from us in the Chart Room one time. I could not pluck up the courage to go and ask if it was you. So if you recall someone keep looking & wondering, it was me

So along with the 3 CT'esketeers who did meet, there were also 2 others aboard at least. There were other faces I 'knew' too, but whether people I should have recognised or not I don't know.

I really enjoyed the service & took many clips and photos, as those around me [we must have been fairly near each other from your view, blue section?], and then we saw upon leaving a tiny sign stuck along the side saying 'strictly no photography or video' Completely unseen previously and somewhat hidden, but I doubt it would have stopped anyone even if noted.

Pam

Did anyone visit the other big Cathedral in Liverpool, the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral?

It's affectionately known as 'Paddy's Wigwam' by the locals. It's very impressive, in a different style, being circular.

That was not melodrama - that was a skipper talking from the heart and not from the corporate manual

Carol Marlow referred to the sale of the QE2 complete with all her artefacts as a means of ensuring that "the people" will be able to see her history in the future - just a shame that "the people" won't be those of her heritage!

Malcolm I visited the other Cathedral as a kid, not long after it was opened.; don't remember much except the 'Wigwam' aka 'Big Top'. Looking up the date I see it was consecrated in 1967, another 40yr old.

The front cover of the Concert 'order of Serice' is Ted Walker's "QE2 in the Mersey", lovely painting.

I finally got through my video clips and have split them into 10 short'ish segments! I so enjoyed the concert I didn't have the heart to ditch any of them.
They are listed here.

No half muted cheers and at times the audience [congregation?] would have been a match for any at the Last Night of the Proms. Sailing [The Band of the Scots Guards] was most 'moving'.. {wonder why Rod Stewart didn't show his face at any point?}..

Speeches were kept to the point and to a minimum.
I did wonder how non-Brits would feel about the service with Rule Britannia, Jerusalem & Land of Hope & Glory ending with Auld Lang Syne, but all I spoke to thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was electric.

Rule Britannia & Jerusalem

Land of Hope & Glory

The Mersey Ferry Snowdrop ran continuous trips all day, packed solid with people waving, even in the morning when it poured with rain.

Then to top a fabulous day the firework display at 22.45.

Pam, your videos of the Cathedral ceremony are superb. No, not slickly professional, but you re-created the scene just as we saw it. I think I detected my bald spot in the right front of your coverage at some point! Your video-tracking the big screen was inspired...because that is the way our "gang of three (minus 1)" viewed it. Not clear and crisp, but totally representative of the scene that day. And this group of Yanks enthusiatically waved our Union Jacks and belted out "Rule Britannia," with the best of them! Call it "caught up in the emotions of the moment" if you will, it was completely and absolutely sincere. We all shared the privilege of a superbly crafted ceremony that will be with us forever. And with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" there was not a dry eye in the house.

Pam

Did you receive the message with my Post Office address?

I have not yet given up on the BBC recording.

I have traced the studio, Manchester, and programme, North West Tonight, nwt@bbc.co.uk that were recording in the cathedral - but they don't want to talk
