I took my family to Duluth, Minnesota to visit the Clelia II with the Great Lakes Cruise Company or Travel Dynamics International. We spend a couple hours looking around, I interviewed a couple of people, then we watched the ship leave Duluth under the lift bridge. Not very often a cruise ship visits Minnesota.

It's weird to imagine a sea going ship so deep into the Americain continent.
Obviously, judging from the number of people watching her on the pier, it seems to have been quite an event in Duluth.
I wonder what is the maximum possible size for a ship to transit from the ocean to the Lakes.

I think Hapag Lloyd's C Columbus is still the largest ship to cruise the Great Lakes? She was purpose built for it with swinging bridge arms, but hasn't been there for a couple of years, after maybe 10 seasons. The limitations on size are to do with the maximum beam for passing through the locks, about 78'.

Nice clip - especially since I love vertical lift bridges.

As far as I know Columbus is still the larges ocean going passenger ships that can (or better could) sail on the great lakes but I have been told that low water levels make that impossible for now.

We saw a couple of thousand feet ocean going tankers come in. Yes Columbus has not been here in awhile. The crowds were here for the 4th festivities. The cruise ship got very little attention.
