I just talked to our TA and she informed us that we had been upgraded from lowest (and cheapest)4A on the Sensation to 6B on the main deck. It is an outside stateroom with a window. WOW I am so excited. This may also be due to the fact that we only have 28 days to go. anyone else been upgraded?

A few years ago I was upgraded from inside to outside on the Mercury. We were unaware until we boarded the ship

Some cruise lines like to resell the cheapest cabins again, thus offering low deals. So if you book early enough, you might just get pushed up a grade or two?

Great news!

I am hoping for that too. Is that the normal way they do things?? Heading on the repositioning cruise on Zenith in April we booked in Dec. I notice on Celebrity's Site they are booking lots cat guarantees and an X category what is that????
I booked a 12 guarantee what are our chances of at least not being on the bottom deck?

cruisernh1, hmmm...you might get lucky? It does not seem to be an exact science, so you should never expect to get upgraded, as you might just be disappointed.

On most newer ships, like the 'Zenith', all the cabins are nice, on all the decks, even the cheapest inside ones! However of course some are 'more' nice than others!

Please return and let us know here at CruiseTalk how your cruise went.

Regarding your question about category "X", it is my understanding that this category means that you are not assigned a cabin until you actually check in on the ship. You are guaranteed to get a cabin somewhere on the ship, but they do not specify where. It seems to me that this could either work to your extreme advantage or disadvantage.

We were just upgraded a week and a half before departure. Up one deck from inside to outside. Yes, we had an assigned room.
It's our best room ever! And our very first upgrade. Great!

We too were booked on the Zenith, cat. X and paid the lowest price listed to guarantee an outside cabin. Upon boarding,we were assigned a cabin about three or four categories higher. I should add that we only booked about a month or less before sailing. And yes, the cabins are all very nice.

Ascendancy: Maybe someone on this board made a call or two! On the other hand maybe they are starting to take better care of their alumni. Have a great cruise.
Take plenty of old tee shirts it gets crowded on deck. Kevin

I have been booking the lowest unassigned rate for years. It is a great way to go more often. As long as it is not a ship that still has upper/lowers it is a good deal. I have been upgraded more often that not. The time frame varies, I have gotten upgrades when I have booked anywhere from 1-12 months out. One time I ended up in highest cat. on the ship. If the ship is not filling up it is good PR for them to move people up. It is more work for them to do that rather than give the better cabins to last-minute bookings.

Yes K&K, I packed plenty of old shirts! If they turn up missing, oh well. At least most of the time the shirt will be there doing its job saving my prime pool deck seat. If you can't beat em, then you gotta join em.

We have a 6:30 AM flight on Thursday, got the house sitter in order and the bags are nearly packed.
