I too wonder if we can bring a bottle of our own onto an NCL ship. Does anyone know how much drinks are? It would be nice to have a drink in our cabin before dinner but I don't want to make waves- sorry I couldn't resist.

I love the soft drink -Mountain Dew and the cruise ships don't serve it, so when I went on my last cruise on the Rembrandt, I brought a six-pack in my luggage. I suppose if you're a real lush and you're too cheap to buy alcohol on the ship then sure why not BYOB? What are they (NCL) going to do- throw you in the brig?

Sure you can! I seldom carry a bottle on board, but wait until the first port to buy duty free liquor, wine and even soft drinks ( these cost $1.50 a can on most cruises). On one cruise, I could even buy duty free liquor from the ship for consumption on the ship. also, on one of my cruises, a table mate brought several bottles of wine and had the wine stewart open them for him at dinner ( he did give a nice tip at the end of the cruise). Bring what you want and/or buy what you want when in port.

P.S. Drinks on cruises cost from $3.00 up ( $3.00 being a special), wine from $4.50 up and beer from $2.75 up, at least on the cruises I have been on. Others could be more.

Although I order wine with every dinner and occasional wine or cocktails in lounges and/or showrooms, I pike to unwind with personal wines in our cabin. I really resent being "searched" by NCL and RCCI (and others?) when boarding!

Just returned from NCL's Bermuda trip from Canaveral where NCL SEARCHED all carry-on bags and confiscated liquor which was returned upon arrival back home.
Most cruise lines' literature state that no alchoholic beverages are to be brought on board. This is the only time in 8 cruises where I saw anything done about it. I always bring pre-dinner drinks on board in my luggage and also order wine at every meal. I don't feel the cruise lines are losing anything altho they may think differently.
P.S. Most lines state that a service charge will be assessed if you bring wines into the dining room--ie: corkage--as in any normal restaurant!

My advice is pretty simple. If you are looking for cheap booze...don't cruise!

I'm saddened to hear that searches have been implemented. So petty!! Let's hope enough letters and e-mails reach the management that they'll live up to their image of GRACIOUS service.

We are cruising NCL around the Hawaiian Islands in October , I will be pretty peeved if they search our luggage, We have always taken duty free onto ships in the past to have a pre-dinner drink have never had any problems on RCCL or P&O.

Let's hear it for Jannsun!!!!

If your booze is in your (combo lock)
locked (!) luggage (NOT carry-ons) it cannot
be searched; further, if your'not breaking any (REAL) laws, no cruise line would be
prepared to enter the legal foray resulting from their having searched your combination-locked baggage. Let's be REAL about this...
their admonition is designed to intimidate,
and if theyr succeed in intimidating 90% of
their "clients" they continue able to charge
$4 (US) (and up) for a 50 cent drink. Let
common sense (rare a commodity that it is in
the contemporary world) prevail!

We have always taken booze on board Holland America Ships and nothing has been said. They certainly have not searched anyone. Wine however may not be taken to the dining room table unless it has been purchased on board
