So many cruise lines, so little time. I'm interested in your recommendation for the best 7-day S. Caribbean cruise leaving from either Florida or Puerto Rico. My boyfriend and I (mid-twenties) are planning to travel with my parents (mid-fifties) in either January or Feb. 2000. What's the consenus on the "illegal dumping" Royal Carribean line or the "sexually assulting, kid popular" Carnival cruise line?

We had three generations on a cruise in the caribbean ealier this year. They catered to everyone's interests without missing a beat. As far as the fines levied against RCI it's a shame and a black eye to a company that promotes an evironment friendly policy to it's passengers. I'm confident that the negative attention and huge fines are changing how RCI deals with this behind the scenes aspect of cruising. I have never been on Carnival before, but I am concerned about the sexual assaults that were reported also. As far as the southern caribbean goes..I prefer to leave from Florida.

Hi!
7 days+southern Caribbean=San Juan. If you are looking at stops like Martinique, Grenada,Barbados, etc.,you will have to leave from San Juan for a 7 day cruise. Strongly recommend you leave a day early at that time of year.
If you have the time for a 10 day cruise, then you can leave from Ft. Lauderdale on several very fine ships. Still fly down the day before in winter.
Regards, John

Celebrity has a great itinerary to the Southern Caribbean. Starts off in San Juan. Five ports in seven days. Including Barbados, St. Lucia, St.Thomas,Antigua and Martinique! Celebrity has the best of everything. Great food, beautiful modern ships! I have seen some good prices on this cruise as well. Don't think you have to pay a lot more for Celebrity. My cruise on Celebrity was less money than on my Carnival cruises. For seven days. No, I'm NOT a travel agent. I have been doing a lot of research on all the cruise ships and itineraries for our next cruise.I have cruised Celebrity twice and have decided to stay with them.

As a frequent cruiser, it seems to me that you would want a cruise line that has a higher degree of class since you are taking your parents with you. I would highly recommend that you go with Princess since the atmosphere is nicer than your party ships. I have tried other cruise lines and have always been disappointed.

I havebeen on the Horizon for seven days out of San Juan and the Horizon for ten days out of Ft. Lauderdale. Celebrity is the way to go. If you have the time and the budget allows, ten days is also the way to go. It is more relaxing and it sure helps to split up the winter if you are from a cold climate like we are. There are good beaches ( particularly Reduit Bay on St. Lucia, our favorite) on the itinerary, if that is what you are looking for. Good tours are also available. But with Celebrity it's a great way to go just to relax. great food - great service - good entertainent

Big Mac's recommendation is good - also check out Holland America Line - very much on a par with Princess - in fact some people prefer it!

Would not put off for much longer firming up your arrangements. January and February are very popular months.

Happy cruisin'

I agree with Mercy, last December my husband and I took a southern cruise on the Galaxy and found it to include the most ports for your money, we visited St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, St Thomas and Antigua. The trip was great I found the islands we visited very interesting. The ship is comfortable and the food is out of this world.
