cncservo,

Thanks for wondering about me. I am still here, and i still read all the messages in cruise talk. Awhile back, somethings went on, so i said i would lay low and just read and not respond to the post. Everytime i do respond i get jumped on for being open.
Anyways, once again thanks for wondering about me.
Do you have a e-mail address?

cncservo,

The Tropicale is loaded and out at sea. I am glad she is finally up and going again. I watched the news, and i just could not get over what all they was saying. The news media kept focusing on the few people that did complain. I know that it had to of been a scarey situation out there, and I know it ruined alot of vacations, but there was alot of stuff the news media said that I disagree with. Alot of it was false and not true.
CClines
Thanks for the welcome Elizabeth.

Hi CCLines,
I'm pretty new so I don't know you, but sounds like you've got some good friends here.
So, you've got my curiosity: Set the record straight for us what was true, what was false?

Swanny,

On The Tropicale, some of the news media kept saying over and over that there was no working toilets, but what they failed to say is that ONLY 20% of the toilets were not working which is nothing to brag about but the way the news media talked there was no working toilets at all.
Overall 86% of the quest who were aboard The Tropicale felt comfortable and felt that Carnivals crew did a good job. If you notice the news media focused on the 14% who talk bad about it.
Another thing they kept saying in the news that The Tropicale had NO H20 (water) The Tropicale had enough bottled water onboard for 12 days. The News media also failed to mention we had The Carnival Sensation on standby.
No matter what you do say or offer some quest you cant always please everyone and thats a FACT. One thing people need to understand is Accidents happen. No one is perfect except God. We dont wont accidents to happen, but i am sure sometime or another we have all had accidents in our automobiles or had a house fire. Things happen. Look at Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Dream.
At Carnival the #1 concern is the safty of the passengers. Everyone got back safe and sound and got a full refund plus a free future cruise.

Isn't it just typical about the media? Over here in Britain ( I don't know where you are from!) the media seem to love making a big thing out of small situations.

When the two ships collided in the English Channel a couple of months ago the only people who were interviewed by the press were the 1% of people who were scared, not the 99% who said the crew handled thing excellantly and were put at ease very quickly. Because of this the pages were full of drama Etc.

The press really exagerate and it really gets on my nerves bacause the real picture is never known.

I don't know about the news coverage, but the Cruise Opinion review from Brenda Nelson, didn't paint a very pretty picture of her ill fated cruise on the Tropicale. When she smelled smoke the waiter lied to her and said that they burned some fish in the kitchen. Soon after the alarm sounded. Her shower flooded the bathroom every time she took one. Many calls to maintenance were ignored. This was BEFORE the fire. And you can't bathe with bottled water.I think many passengers would have preferred being transferred to the Sensation. She said the ship was listing to one side for a day and there was no air conditioning. I know accidents happen. But it's HOW they are handled that makes the difference.

I agree with the sensationalism of events by the media.
Nevertheless, if I had been a passenger I would have appreciated the opportunity to get off the ship ASAP.
Now, I will make a positive comment re:Carnival.
In summer of 1998 another mom and I took a group of 5 highschool girls on a 4 day cruise to Mexico. Carnival was an excellent line for this purpose and the girl's budget. One particular group of male early 20's passengers were quite obnoxious and innapropriate, even for a "Fun Ship"
They were held in confined overnight, removed from ship, and turned over to the authorities in Ensenada Mexico to the delight of the remaining passengers on board!!!
Swanny
PS: it was the relaxing time I had that persuaded me to book an upcoming cruise with my husband (although it will be a different line to accomodate our itinerary and other preferences)

Six of us are scheduled to sail on the Tropicale in April and appreciate the dialogue about her misfortunes. We are sticking with this ship because of all the good things that we have heard. It seems to us that they will do everything possible to get some good publicity. If anyone sails before April, please post a report. Thanks!
