I'm not one who enjoys having their picture taken at various events on the ship (i.e. boarding, Captain's party, etc). I've tried in the past to tell the ship photographer that I prefer not to have my picture taken. However, they just say, "be a sport"; "you don't have to buy it if you don't want"! Wish the photographers weren't so aggressive. How can I politely tell them I'm not interested?

Darlene - they don't understand the word "polite" so you almost have to be rude with them. I cannot understand why they want to irritate the passengers so much. No thank you should mean just that.
Make sure you put a comment on your "Comment" sheet about this at the end of the cruise, or speak to the Hotel Manager and tell him how you feel. See the other posts on this subject on this forum. People really seem to be fed up with the photographers.

obviously both kas and I dont have very much to do today since we both seem to be hitting the keys. But it is cold outside! Regarding ships photographers, I agree with you about their persistence. Added to this is the fact that they dont seem to be able to take good pictures. I doubt that they have much training. I would not recommend being rude to them since they are only trying to do their job and probably a poorly paid one at that. I have always found that the best course is to be politely firm with a pleasant "no thankyou". As to writing this up on the report card, I doubt that the management is really interested. I had reason to write up a very serious breach nearing on the illegal a few years ago. I got no response.

My husband and I don't like to have pictures taken especially when we board as we live in Canada we usually travel a long way and certainly don't look our best. We just walk by the photographers and don't let them grap us for a photo, they can be quite persistant but so can my husband and I, ultimately we win out.

Donny, you'll never hear anything back on a comment card. If you have a real complaint, write a letter to the cruise line, give it to your travel agent to forward to them, and then give them about 6 weeks for any sort of response. There is a department at every cruise line just to handle complaints, suggestions, etc.

To all cruisers: Keep in mind that cruise lines have caught on to those who take a cruise looking for something to complain about or threaten to sue over, hoping for a refund or discounted or free cruise in the future. This has gotten to be a common scam, and if a name gets on that list, nothing from that name will ever be taken seriously again, and the name will be reported to the insurance industry database as a possible fraud suspect watch.

On the other hand, no cruise line can afford to ignore a serious complaint, if it proves to be valid.

Thanks for the advice. I've cruised with Princess and HAL a number of times, and found the photographers to be quite persistent. After all, no means no! We'll be cruising on Radisson for the first time this winter....wonder how this line compares?

Just got off the Mercury on Sunday, and I would have to say that they have the least ubiquitous photographers we have ever seen. Sometimes, you wonder where they are!
