We are cruising from Fort Lauderdale in November, 2000 and want to arrive in Fort Lauderdale the day before our cruise leaves. Any suggestions of hotels located near the port would be appreciated.

Try the Lago Mar Resort & Club (800/524-6627). This is an excellent family-owned resort just across the bridge from Port Everglades (about a two minute taxi ride). It has 475 feet of private beach and a 9,000 square foot swimming pool. The rooms are spacious and very nice, and the rates are extremely reasonable for such an exquisite property. It's considered one of Ft. Lauderdale's "hidden jewels."

If you have not yet booked a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, I would recommend staying at the Pier 66 hotel. Although I have not yet stayed there, my cruise family and I visited the hotel and it's beautiful boat yard and would love to stay there, but it is a bit on the expensive side. So if you've got lots of $$$, then I would recommend staying at the Pier 66, located just across the street from Port Everglades.

Another good one is the Marriott Marina at Biscayne. In the morning when you have breakfast you overlook all the cruise ships.

We have stayed at Pier 66 many times and it is lovely. They have a very large pool and if you are crusing with HAL they have a
check-in desk in the lobby where you can check in the night before you sail, get your boarding pass and you are on your way. You will still have to wait with all the other passengers at the pier until your number is call. Alumni usually get #l boarding pass and don't have to wait around for very long. We didn't go on the bus to the pier, but took a cab - not expensive and very close to the pier. Pier 66 usually put cruise passengers up in their lanai rooms some of which face the inter-coastal and you can see all the big expensive cruisers. They have a nice dining room/coffee shop, but it is a bit expensive for dinner. Last time we were told by the hostess that we had to have a full dinner, when all we wanted was a sandwich. After making some inquiries we got our sandwich. There is also an outdoor snack bar and the food is good. The day of sailing we would pack our bags, leave them with the bell hop to be stored in a secure storage, then go up to the revolving bar on the top floor, have something to drink and wait in comfort until it was time to leave for the ship.
I believe Princess also has a check-in desk at the hotel.
Have a great cruise.

There is also a Marriot just across the bridge from the Hyatt Pier 66, which has the same great views but is a little less expensive. Cheaper yet, is the Best Western which is right on the water, directly across the intercoastal waterway from the Princess dock, and across the road from the Hyatt Pier 66. They have a free shuttle to Fort Lauderdale airport and to the pier. If you find yourself at any of the above hotels and want to take your own liquor aboard for cabin comsumption (assuming your not sailing with Celebrity!!) there is a liquor store adjacant to the Best Western that is very inexpensive. Cheers!

Sorry about that! OK.....We stayed at the Embassy Suites twice with Celebrity's pre-night package. Great Hotel w/free cocktail hour and wonderful breakfast buffet. They also provided free transportation to the pier so we didn't wait for the bus or use the transfers. If you need any last minute items, there is a small shopping center within walking distance and lots of restaurants to choose from too. Have fun!

Stay away from the Airport Hilton. It's the worst hotel I've ever had the misfortune of staying in.

stay at the Pier 66 - great pool, good location, mice walkway to see the intercoastal. Princess and HA use and check you at the hotel to avoid some of the lines at the pier.
The Radisson is just okay. It's a strange set up to get around the hotel and not a real friendly staff.
